About
Founded in 1967, the association Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège is largely subsidized by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the City and Province of Liege. It is one of three major opera houses in Belgium. From the beginning, the institution occupies the Théâtre Royal de Liège, beautiful building loaned by the City of Liège (opened November 4, 1820). Its location in the heart of Liège and the Euregio, at the crossroads between Germany, the Netherlands, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and France, attracts a wide audience both Belgian and international.

The Opera Royal de Wallonie is a world-class opera experience. The theater is magical. And in a practical sense, it actually has rows banked enough so that one isn't having to struggle to see through people's heads, and in the orchestra stalls at least, legroom is more than sufficient. Programs are free. Ushers and all staff are competent and friendly. I went specially for Don Carlos. First-class cast. Magnificent production. In my immediate seating neighborhood, people had traveled specially from Brussels, Paris, London, Berlin, Bologna, even Japan!! How can a small city like Liège afford this? Unforgettable, really.

It ist located close to the Center of Lüttich. It is a monumental building with a classical interior, which is similar to Vienna. It has a very good accoustic at all angles. The seats are too close if you have long legs.
Aida was excellent performed by so many phantastic singers and dancers.
Thumbs Up!

Recently renovated to perfection in the best state-of-the-art, the Opera Royal de Wallonie-Liege, is a stunning place. To listen to classical music or to watch an opera in this beautiful environment is a delight. Not talking about the overall quality of performance! A small city like Liege, thanks to its rich history, is so lucky to have a place like this!

I have seen four productions here, and all were compelling in some way. Not content to take the easy route, Opera Royal de Wallonie's productions are innovative, sometimes challenging, always engaging. While this is not La Scala or Chicago Lyric, the intimacy of the house (and the relative inexpensiveness of the tickets) make this worth checking out. It might be my favorite place to see opera.
Note: If you don't speak French or Flemish, you might want to bone up on the plot before you go, as there are no English supertitles.

The Liège opera building did recently benefit from a complete make-over, and it shows. The place is tidy and comfortable, and the scene now has all necessary technical tools for large scale opera productions.
The program on offer is diverse, but most operas have a short run. Prices are low to international standards. The quality of the productions varies, but I haven't seen enough recent performances to comment further.

We attended several performances at the newly refurbished Opera royal de Wallonie and enjoyed every minute of it! The performance was first rate (the Italian sisters of Cav and Pag, set in production by tenor Jose Cura -- who also performed the lead in both of these short works.) It was magical!
The opera staff is friendly and goes out of its way to assist visitors; it was a delight working with them.
The opera house itself is not imposing in the foyer area; I'm not sure if the reconstruction is complete but it is very shallow and when we were there still covered with rough construction detailing. Inside the auditorium, it seems each seat must have good sightlines and the acoustics seemed wonderful.
Women's bathrooms, as is true in far too many places, were small and with too few stalls.
If opera is your thing and you are in Belgium when the Opera Royal has a production, it may well be worthwhile to visit and enjoy a wonderful evening of music.

I visitbopera house all over Europe andI this was my first visit to Liege. The house is a beautiful building and the standard of performance was excellent. Small things like free pregramme and cloaks make this a house to visit for all opera lovers.

The Opera has got a central position in Liège, nobody can miss it. Inside it feels like we are in a chic castle of the Renaissance and delicate modern touches. Beautiful place and excellent acoustic.

Very beautiful building, and it looks even better at night. It's also great on the inside, so if anyone's got a chance to watch a play or a concert, don't waste this opportunity!
