I came here with a group of friends. We all loved exploring the cathedral itself and then discovered the treasure room tour! It was super well organized (regarding Covid) and it felt clean and safe. There were so many amazing things to look at and learn about. Make use of the audio! So many interesting facts about the items and reliquaries. It was such a nice time and we loved this little museum. Definitely worth a stop!

Liège Cathedral, also known as St. Paul's Cathedral, is a church with a history dating back to the 10th century. Although the current building only dates back to the 13th century. Like many cathedrals dating from this period, the church is a nice example of Gothic architecture. Some of the most outstanding features of the building include the highly ornate altarpiece of the abbey chapel, the classical Greek inspired Baroque sculpture of St John the Baptist, the ribbed vault of the nave, with its golden ribs and its vaults coated and painted with rinceaux common to French Gothic styles. The cathedral also has the usual collection of beautiful stained glass windows, some which have very contemporary designs that complement the more traditional ones.

A very unusual feature of the cathedral is the pulpit. There’s a sculpture of Lucifer at the back of the pulpit.

Sadly, the cathedral is currently undergoing renovation, so much of the facade is hidden under scaffolding. The church is still a must visit in Liege.

I love thia cathedral and how they put more modern looking stained glass inside it. When the sun is shinning through it, it looks like heaven. Worth a visit. They have a photo gallery in the hallway which is nice too.

The visit was in two parts. I went around the cathedral with the aid of a guide book. The people on the desk were helpful with my enquiries.
The guide book required a bit of work to link numbers in the book to the things to see.
It was worth the effort to walk round the cathedral and see the paintings and relics.
I then went to see the treasures of the cathedral. Everything was very well set out. There was an audio guide and a variety of video screens to look at.
There was a lot of information that proved very illuminating.
The other plus was there was a thunderstorm outside and it was great to be inside.

The cathedral has some very impressive glass windows, with modern influences on the upper windows showing the metaphorical story of creation in 7 panels.

It's free to get in, but you can pay to see the treasure. The outside was almost covered in scaffolding. Inside there is some excellent stained glass both old and modern

I first saw the Liege cathedral 45 years ago. Much of the city has changed since then - including the number of cars per city block - but the cathedral remains its staid self. The only exception is the addition of "artsy" stained glass windows. I appreciate the need to replace such glass from time to time, but I must admit that the modern glass does not blend well with the deep historicity of the building itself.

An absolute must see while in Liège; the faithful can appreciate the Church and others can admire the history and the architecture inside and out which both are incredible! Absolutely stunning beauty in the structure, the paintings, the ornate designs - everything.
