Where's the Shark

Went to see the shark. It was tiny and I thought missing in action until others informed me that I had simply turned my head in the wrong direction when I passed the open tank.

Not big, but beautifully presented and labelled. Displays includes full information in four languages. Lots of benches for adults to sit and steps for children to climb. There are a few small tanks on the side of the stairs. Look for the African clawed frog that only moves when no one is watching. The top floor is an archive of... More

We spent a nice afternoon at the aquarium on a rainy day and very much enjoyed the aquarium and zoological museum. My young daughter, who loves all things animal, had the best time naming all the creatures and then learning the names in French.

As a biologist I enjoyed with the fish diversity of the aquarium. Although it is not too big, I think it has a good representation of important taxonomic groups, an also info of distribution, threat category!! The museum was also amazing with a great diversity of specimens. Moreover, the specimens were well preserved, and well taxidermied (specially the birds), which... More

You will certainly find a lot information on alive and not-alive-anymore creatures worth seeing here. But please take a while to look for a small exhibition of educational aids ordered by one of UdL professors in late 19th century. They had no underwater photos nor video nor 3D models - so the professor ordered a series of small sea organisms... More

I'm very surprised about all the negative comments. This is a very old museum and it's necessary to think about the resources that they had more than a hundred years ago and They have plenty of animals! it's true that the rooms need a renovation and maybe more explanation but that's all! The aquarium is small but modern. We really... More

After seeing the aquariums in Scheveningen and Oberhausen, this one is really disappointing. It's a bunch of fairly small rectangular aquariums, with only small fish. I'm no fish expert, but I didn't notice any special fish you wouldn't see at other places.

This is worth stopping at if you're down by the river or passing. There are some large freshwater tanks with corydoras and tetras which you don't usually see at large aquariums. There are some nice large tanks but it seemed there was refurbishment going on. Perhaps the building of a ray tank, which was empty. The large cube tank was... More

first of all the toilet was blocked. there are only two rooms with basic exhibits and each had over populated fish tanks. in one tank, all the fish had some disease around their gills and one poor fish gills were exposed because its flesh had rotted away. its showcase tank was disappointingly small and over populated also. this place should... It's small, dark and not a huge number of tanks to walk round. It is pretty good value and an easy way to kill a few hours
