The main reason why you should visit this railway station is because of its architecture. It was build by Calatrava. The same architect that build the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia.
There is a parking lot at the station, but rather expensive.
An other reason is the temporary exposition 'Napoleon – beyond the myth'. It end on January 9th 2022. This immersive cultural adventure, covering nearly 3000 m², traces the many facets of Napoleon Bonaparte. The entry fee includes an audioguide.

Liège-Guillemins railway station is the main station of the city of Liège, the third largest city in Belgium. It is one of the most important hubs in the country and is one of the 3 Belgian stations on the high-speed rail network. A beautiful piece of architecture.

This is an interesting designed bus and train station. It had a very modern design in a city that seems to be 40 years behind. It's a fun place to visit but this station seems to run well and had all you need when you arrive. Well run and fun to see.

Must do when in Liege, really interesting and impressive train station. With its design it is quite easy to find the platforms, everything is very open. There are some sketchy people in front of the station but which station doesn't have sketchy people, right? Looks great for pictures.

The main train station in Liege. It certainly one of the most lavishly designed modernist and buildings I’ve seen. At €312 million, it’s also one of the most insanely expensive train stations I’ve heard of. The building looks like the offspring of a spaceport and a Belgian waffle with it criss-crossing lines that form the walls and roof, and futuristic looks, inside and out.
From a purely aesthetic point of view, I’d have gladly taken the one hour ride from Brussels just to see this work of art. The facilities at the station aren’t too bad either.

Railways, designers and architects have been striving hard to add misery to the life of the European travellers. In this station they have surpassed themselves. This latest monstrosity, joining Berlin, in maximising the discomfort of travellers achieves it magnificently. Most travellers only see an impressive canopy as their train passes through with never a thought for the poor people on the platform. Freezing in winter, wind swept, rain soaked or sunny fried the rest of the year, the only shelter is below the platforms on a cold stone bench or in a cramped cafe. Just to add to the discomforts beware of bag snatchers.

We were passing through Liege from Cologne to Brussels. I decided to stretch my legs and sit near the suitcases on Thalys. Just as the doors opened at Liege Giillemins these two men got onto the train and started lifting up my mother and sisters suitcase. I got up and said that's not yours. Then he said "non, non.." and tried to take another one which belonged to my father. I quickly grabbed that too. They fled. There seems to be a racket at Liege for this sort of activity, be careful!!!!

This train station is probably one of the nicest looking buildings in Liege. It is really a treat when you arrive here. It is open so it can get quite cold inside it. But it is worth a quick visit.

This station cost €300 million to build, and its only purpose seems to be to provide a nice view for the passengers of the trains passing through.
Unfortunately the Belgian railways are one of the worst in Europe in terms of time accuracy, so one inevitably spends more time in its stations than in its trains. Spending time at the Liege-Guillemins station is no pleasure. When it is cold, there is no warm place to sit. There are a few coffee shops, but they close at 7 pm, and then one has to sit on a very uncomcortable, cold, marble bench.
Afer dark lots of shady characters appear and one has to be careful watching one's luggage.
To come back to the station's purpose as something worth viewing: the budget for cleaning the windowpanes seems to have been cut, as they look very dirty.
Summary: Unbelievable that such an expensive station does not have a simple shelter where a traveler can spend some waiting time without having his feet frozen off.

Amazing glass design with impressive dimensions. Really open design. Clear easy to understand ticket machines with help on hand for the technophobes! Clear platform signage and you can actually hear the announcements unlike most UK stations.

Hi! I was wondering if we stopped in Liege on our way to Brussels what we could do in half a day? Is it all close by to the train station and is there luggage storage available at the station? We thought it would be fun to take one of the city tours, try a waffle and climb those steps. What do you think, forgo the stop and go directly to Brussels or spend the 1/2 day here?

To get to the centre and the steps etc quickest get another train to Liège-Saint-Lambert (10mins on train). Half a day plenty to do the sights on your list.

is the station open 24 hours a day? as i have to wait 3 hours before transferring to the next train at around 2 a.m., can i just stay in the station?

The station is open 24/7 but food shops close around 19:00 and ticket counters at 21:00. Nearby are some cafes and restaurants, some of which which will be open somewhat later (22:00-23:00) Head to Rue des Guillemins for those.
I would like to take a train from Brussels International Airport to Liège. How can I go? Please tell me how to get there. I will arrive at Brussels International Airport around 17:30. It may be around 18:30 that I can leave the airport.
