We were travelling back to Northumberland from London and thought we would break our journey with a stop off at the NCM museum with it being just a few miles from the m1 having seen it signposted previously and having had it recommended by a colleague we thought we would give it a go! We enjoyed looking round the gallery... More

I am writing mostly on behalf of my 14 year old daughter who we brought on a visit from Harrogate with her American exchange partner. She absolutely loved it. The biggest impact on her was made by Dobin the tour guide. She has not stopped talking about how amazing and funny he was and how much she has learned about... More

Visited today with my 9yr old daughter I can honestly say we both loved it. The underground tour was the highlight and eeen (yes that's how he spelt it 😅) was a fantastic guide and very funny for both adults and children. Will definitely be returning as we didn't get chance to explore the nature trail and will be taking... More

Had a great time here yesterday, especially the underground tour. Thanks to TC (Trevor) our guide, who kept all 5 of us amused and interested. Our family group has an age range from 7yrs to 70yrs, and we all had a great time. The meal in the cafe was excellent. The whole visit was excellent and would thoroughly recommend it.

Visited here with my kids for a day out, we all loved it. Plenty to see and do. The nature trail, ponies, museum & underground tour were excellent (missed out on the train). Kebab our tour guide was very informative and engaging with the group we were with, had the kids enthralled from start to finish. Paid £3 each for... More

Bit of a drive for us, but certainly well worth it. Thought it might last couple of hours, stayed for more than five and could have been longer. The various exhibition galleries (see website) are multi-levelled, interactive and fresh. Personally, very impressed with very balanced but frank telling of story of nationalisation through to strikes and closures. When we visited,... More

I could not agree more with previous reviews, this museum is value for money, interactive and a fun day out for all the family. We visited on a Bank Holiday and unfortunately were too late for the underground experience so we will be going back. The day we visited was all about nationalisation and the impact on local communities. Prior... More

What a brilliant day out !! The tour underground was amazing - we had some charming kids having a field day with our tour guide 'Uncle Pete' ... The museum was so interesting .. then the gorgeous pit ponies... followed by a visit to the Pit Head baths, and memorial gardens were very moving . What a wonderful tribute to... More

This day out location is a little gem, We went with our Nanna and the staff was very on the ball with looking after her as she was the older member of the underground tour. The on site items to look at is great and the old locker and shower rooms really takes you back in time. The underground tour... More
