Elise Saint Quentin is a church at the western end of Grand Place. It's a very distinctive looking building of Gallo-Romanesque design, almost in contrast to the nearby Cathedral of Tournai at the opposite end of Grand Place. The building has been around since the 12th century. Due to it's great age and the restoration work over the centuries, the church now has a mix of Gothic and Baroque architectural features, although that's really obvious once you step inside. The isn't especially worth a detour unless you want to see the Saint Quentin reliquary or already in Grand Place.

A nice church displaying various architectural styles inside. But I wanted to point out that from the Grand Place, walk through the passage 2 buildings to the right of the church. It brings you to a lovely green space (Parc du Fort Rouge; according to another reviewer this site was formerly Saint Quentin's cemetery). The path winds through to the Red Fort (Fort Rouge, part of former city wall fortifications) and rue Perdue. There is also a memorial to the first Belgian pilot lost in WWII. This path was also a handy shortcut to our hotel, the Hotel d'Alcantara.

It's in the Grand Place, it's open and you can visit, but there's nothing much to see ......... lots of chairs, no description of any features

This is a rather imposing piece of architecture on one corner of the main square (Grand Place, really a triangle). It irritated me a bit that they've placed a grouping of small trees in the square in front of the church that messes with your ability to get a decent photo of the building without a fish-eye lens or gaining another vantage, e.g. from the Belfort. Nothing particularly spectacular within, but nice enough for a quick stop while you're in the area.

Like all Romanesque churches, there is very little decoration inside. However, the dimensions are quite well balanced and this gives this church a pleasant feel.

This is worth a stop early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid the crowds. Amazing architecture and art throughout.

My favourite one in Tournai...
From the architecture to its simplicity and the elements inside.
Really recommend it

Medieval structured building with some alterations over time. Nothing exceptional but worth a quick visit if you are in the city center.
