    Fascinating museum
Fascinating museum about Mons at war - and there's been a lot of battles centred on Mons over the centuries! The town as been attacked and rebuilt again and again. The museum does not just focus on World War I - it's a much wider story. Lots of interesting exhibits. Well worth a visit. We parked and walked.

    Military History of the city
We visited this museum on November 1st. You will learn about the military history of Mons. The main part is about the Great War. You can learn about persons that were important during the history of the city. There are no diorama's. The information boards are in French, Dutch, English and German. In front of the museum and next to the museum there is parking.

A Comprehensive History of Mons During Times of Conflict
Visiting the Mons Memorial Museum was our primary objective for our stay in Mons and it did not disappoint. The city has a long history as a conquest prize by virtue of its location. The museum lays out the city's role in conflicts dating back to the Medieval period as well as WWI and WWII. The exhibits illustrating WWI and WWII provide a complete picture of life under German occupation during both periods. If you are a history lover, this museum does not disappoint.

This modern museum is well worth a visit. If arriving by car it’s remarkably easy to miss, luckily there is a tank parked outside!
All exhibits are clearly and fully labelled in English and paint a picture of the lives of the townspeople through 2 world wars.
By the end I felt that we had learned a lot and wish we had visited as we arrived in Belgium rather than on the way home.

The Mons Memorial Museum is a military museum with exhibitions of wars and battles which involved the city of Mons. The museum has a large and varied collection of uniforms, arms and smaller items all the way from the middle ages through to the 20th century. Although pre-modern conflicts are covered, there’s a special emphasis on the two world wars, which were so devastating for Belgium. The narrative of the museum is fairly apolitical documenting testimonies from soldiers, from both sides of these conflicts.

I especially enjoyed the videos of how the territories of Belgium changes hands over time, which beats descriptions any day. Like they say, a picture can paint a thousand words.

Definitely worth visiting if in Mons

This is by far the best Museum in Belgium and France dedicated to the history of the area in the run up too and including both world wars. It is not just a military museum but shows the effect of warfare on the residents of Mons.
The displays are clear easy to understand with a great mixture of film, hardware, uniforms and posters. Clever use of film for example view of the bombing of the Mons railway is projected on the floor so that the visitor gets a pilots eye view.
It does not glorify war or lay the blame but gives a historical over view centred around the city.
If you see nothing else in Mons you must see this!

Arrived on a very wet day. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Lots of local history as well as Mons role in the two world wars. Sat Nav took us straight there. Parked nearby without too much hunting for a space. A very enjoyable and interesting newly refurbished museum.

This is a newly rennovated museum which gives real insight into Mons' role as the epicentre of two world wars (expecially the first).
Very moving and interesting - recommended.

People were helpful. Many languages. Thoughtful commentary on the war. Last soldier to be killed in WWI was in Mons.

Travelled from London today to visit this museum to book a tour for later this month. I had hoped that I would have visited with 50 people so would have spent over 500 euros on this visit alone.
I was only in Mons for this morning and despite people working inside there were no warnings that the museum would be closed. The director wouldn't even see me for 2 minutes even though he was there.
Result is that I won't be visiting with my group later this month or any other month at the moment. Really poor customer service in a year when Mons is a city of culture. Poor poor poor.
