The grand place of Mons is charming but not to be flabbergasted. The city hall and houses give you a charming authentic feeling in this little town. But you'll have to admit that in Belgium we have far more Grand Places that will blow you away. I would suggest to walk through the town, it's an agreable journey and you may stop to enjoy local food and drinks near the city hall.

Sitting here in the full heat of summer and watching the world go by is a wonderful thing. The Grand Place has something for everyone: beers, burgers, ice cream, fountains, architecture... you won't be disappointed.

This square is in the centre of Mons. We were only here for a short break over a weekend so only popped into the town for an afternoon / evening. There’s a small amount of sights to see with plenty of bars and restaurants.

They have a I heart Mons sign with a merry go round and other decorations. If you’re in the area it’s definitely worth a visit.

During our visit in Mid November the place was being decorated for Christmas programs.
Buildings are historical. Plenty of shops around.

The Grand Place is the public square of the historic centre of Tournai. As it’s common with European public squares, there’s an array of cafes and restaurants arranged around the square. There’s also a nice mix of historically important civic buildings in the square such as Hotel de ville and The Royal Theatre of Mons. Architecturally, the square mirrors the development of the city with a mix of Gothic and Flemish.

Not amazing, but worth visiting when in the city.

Absolutely lovely surroundings. Rubbing the monkey's head is a must! I was trying to re-create some WW1 photos, but, unfortunately, the whole of the GP was taken over by a carnival! Still, a beautiful place to visit.

What a wonderful place this could be, but like so many town squares it is spoilt by all the wonderful old buildings now being covered up with beer tents and the identity of bars and restaurants.
It is still a beautiful area, and houses some interesting places like a Leffe museum bar. One bonus is that at least the pubs are kept to the one side.
An interesting place to visit never the less

This is a great, laid back area where you can grab some amazing food and beer. The scenery is breathtaking, you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. The buildings and the architecture are incredible. Definitely recommend spending and a few hours here.

Beautiful views with lots of good places to get a drink and a bit e to eat. The fountain that runs during the warm months is a nice touch. Don't forget to go rub the monkey's head with your left hand!
