Brussels is one of the European towns where basics of human civilizations have been forgotten. Basics of human civilization: following the example of the ancient Romans, all person should have access to free air to breathe, free water to drink, free places where to relieve themselves (toilets). Only air in Brussels is free. Not even in obvious places, like train /bus stations or fast food joints or restaurants you will find a free water fountain or a free toilet. You will have to pay, always, and most time they will ask you for coins, not accepting payment by card. Despite all EU and Belgian blah blah on environmental policy, you can only get a sip of water by paying 2 or 3 euro for a plastic bottle of water. For toilets, be prepared to pee in a corner or on yourself, like everybody does in the train stations. Welcome to the smell of Belgium.

Brussels Central is one of the worst train stations in Europe. I was shocked. It looks terrible but even worse was the lack of ramps and elevators for people with luggage. The sole elevator was out of service. There are no ramps. So luggage has to be carried down 2 flights of steps to the train platform — which when you are traveling for a month is not very enjoyable.
You would think with the European Union headquarters in Brussels some money would be spent to modernize the Central train station.

I was heading to London St Pancras from Brussels MIDI Train station. Due to the covid pandemic certain documents and location forms were required In order to go through border control.

My phone had died and I was not aware that I needed to issue these documents to access London.

I was going to miss my train and instead of them sending me back to obtain those documents one of the workers at the border actually turned on her mobile hotspot, went to grab me a phone charger (With a European plug) 🔌 in order for me to fill out my forms. They were so patient and made sure I didn’t miss my train.

I have never written a review in my life. However, people going the extra mile and doing more than what their jobs were asking them to do deserve a thumbs up 👍

Located within the centre of Brussels (hence the name) Brussels Central is the main station you would use for things in the city centre and tourist attractions however if you are travelling internationally you should use Brussels Midi/Zuid. NOT Brussels Central.

There are trains to all over Belgium from this station but make sure you check which platform your train is going from!

There are assorted kiosks on the concourse to get snacks, drinks and something to read.

Whilst you are there I suggest you check out the war memorial which is near the ticket office. This is a fitting tribute to the people who lost their lives in the two world wars.

If you are looking for public restrooms, good luck. Public restrooms in Belgium is close to non existent and if you successfully found one, you will have to pay for it. The one in this station is governed by an old nasty rude lady! Such horrible attitude! The moment she hears you speak a foreign language (English), she will yell at you in French! Come learn from Asia. Free public restroom is accessible everywhere. It is a necessity. How can you tax the citizens so much but can't afford to have basic needs accessible?

We took the train from Ghent to Brussels, a quick 30-minute ride. The central station is perfect for those who want to train into Brussels and hit the sites in the city center. Only a 5-minute walk to Grand Place, and many of the attractions. Very clean and felt safe.

So handy and easy to use, very well connected with other parts of Brussels and International airport. Great location also, on walking distance ( 10-15 min) from city centre.Ticket prices are very reasonable and plenty of options for daily/ weekly passes. Staffs are very pleasant and ready to help.
All in all, myexperience with using this station was all positive.

Similar to past trips to Belgium, we made use of Central Station for journeys to/from the airport as well as a stay in Bruges recently. Service is frequent, regular and timely to both destinations.

You can purchase tickets at the self-ticketing machines, which is intuitive and simple to use. There are several departures to the airport and towards Ghent and Bruges every hour so no need to reserve tickets in advance. Just make your way to the station when you are ready, purchase ticket and get on the next train.

We travelled through here on a couple of occasions whilst staying in Brussels. Staff in blue polo shirts and fleece jackets couldn't have been more helpful. buying tickets and giving times and platform information. A really good service.

Such a busy place! We passed through it a couple of times on a train trip to Ghent. Even facing crowds we were able to find our way around easily thanks to good signage. The usual collection of fast food places and little stores to buy things for your train trip. Not pretty, but very practical. Can walk to the Grand Place.
