Thankfully, the battlefield is largely as it appeared in 1815. Rolling hills, farm fields, the wooded and walled Hougoumont (well-restored) and la Haye Saint (not so much). Still, the vibe and the atmosphere is evocative of the crucial Napoleonic struggle that took place here. The museum is excellent. Creative displays, lots of artifacts. The great Lions mound is a bit of a distraction. But it does afford spectacular views of the entire battlefield. Two downsides: the busy road that runs right through the field, north to south, is a little offputting. And Napoleon’s command position was overgrown with shrubs when I was there.

I wanted to go to some sights and museums that were not on any tour I could find, so I contacted Michael and ask if he would do a custom day tour from Brussels to Bastogne. After I told him where I wanted to go, we agreed on a price. He picked me up promptly at 8 AM, drove me to Bastogne and spent the day taking me from one museum to another. At the Bastogne Barrack’s museum, part of the exhibit was outside. The weather had turned cold (28*) and I did not have a heavy coat. Michael insisted that I wear his heavy coat while he remained in the car. This is the most accommodating man I have ever dealt with and he exceeded my expectations. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

If I could give more than 5 stars I would. We felt so lucky to find Michael, he is one of those truly rare finds. We did three days with him. Our first day we explored Zaanse Schans and Delft in Netherlands. That was followed the next day by incredibly beautiful citadels and castles in Southern Belgium following along the epic river Meuse, ending that day in the beautiful tiny stone village of Durbuy. Our last tour was of Ghent and Bruges in northern Belgium. He is incredibly knowledgeable, and really has a keen awareness and balance of letting you explore and then engaging with in-depth information at the right moments. He treated our 5 year old son so very well and patiently, we were actually a little sad to part when he dropped us off for the last time. We can’t say enough wonderful things about the tours.

My son and I had a day tour with Michael from Brussels to the Waterloo battle site. From beginning to end, it was fabulous. Prior to the tour, Mike's communications with me were informative and gave us confidence that the day would be well planned. Mike was knowledgeable, flexible, responsive, helpful and a very safe driver. He took us all over the battle site and various museums. It was a memorable day. I would thoroughly recommend Mike.

We travelled to Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and Mechelen with Mike over 2 separate days. He is very knowledgable, flexible, great sense of humour and the trip was very comfortable. There were 4 of us on the trip, wife, daughter, mother-in-law and myself. My mother-in-law couldn't walk much and Mike helped by making sure we kept that to a minimum, did the tour slowly and allowed her to rest if required. He was vert accommodating with our request to visit a Jain Temple in Antwerp and researched it's location beforehand. We enjoyed our trip to Belgium and Mike made it all the more fun. Would definitely recommend a tour with Mike.
