I wanted to go to some sights and museums that were not on any tour I could find, so I contacted Michael and ask if he would do a custom day tour from Brussels to Bastogne. After I told him where I wanted to go, we agreed on a price. He picked me up promptly at 8 AM, drove me to Bastogne and spent the day taking me from one museum to another. At the Bastogne Barrack’s museum, part of the exhibit was outside. The weather had turned cold (28*) and I did not have a heavy coat. Michael insisted that I wear his heavy coat while he remained in the car. This is the most accommodating man I have ever dealt with and he exceeded my expectations. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Whenever my husband and I travel to a new European city, we book a private tour with a local, English speaking guide. We find it's the best way to get acquainted with the city, learn about it's history and culture and often make a new friend from a different part of the world. And boy, are we thankful we found Michael Eyns for our visit to Brussels! He was so knowledgeable on the city - took us all over Brussels by car and by foot for six hours. Sharing information about major city highlights down to the church where he was once an altar boy, and the school he attended as a child. We shared lunch together (our treat) and he taught us about traditional Belgian dishes and popular beers. We had such a great day getting to know our new friend Michael in the beautiful city of Brussels. Before he left, Michael walked us down a small alley to Théatre Royal De Toone. A special marionette theatre that's been in Brussels since 1830 - he helped us gather information about a show happening that same evening - essentially making our evening plans (which we loved!).

So not only is Michael a knowledgeable, professional and fun tour guide, he is extremely kind and genuinely has an invested interest in the experience he provides to his patrons. Michael's tour and introduction to Brussels gave us a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we will forever be grateful to him for. Highly recommend his tour!

We toured both Bruges and Ghent today with Mike Eyns. Mike is extremely accommodating and courteous. We found him to be knowledgeable about the area and eager to talk about the culture and history of not only Belgium but of Europe. He did not shy away from any subject including the taboo…politics and religion.
He wore us out, in the very best of ways and was obviously not looking to rush us. Even when we were tired he talked us into going to see the dock/wharf at Ghent and we were so happy we did, it is not to be missed!
Just a couple of pros and cons:
Pros:
-He is very prompt, and when we separated for short times he was right where he said he would be.
-He does not rush you, he will accommodate any stops for pictures, food, bathroom, etc…
-He will talk about anything and answer any question. If he does not know he says so, that did not happen often. I do not feel that he gives out false information just to appear knowledgeable like some tour guides.
-He was old school courteous. He opened car door, held door open for you and often asked if we needed anything.
Cons:
-He smokes, not a big deal to some but my husband has a hard time with the smoke so he always tried to stand downwind when Mike was smoking.
-His car is a beautiful Mercedez, but too small for us. We were a party of 4 and not big people, one of us is a petite 17 year old girl. Very uncomfortable for the long ride in the back seat with 3 of us.

All in all we had a great day, thank you Mike:)

Our group of three adults booked with Mike Eyns Tours for a day trip of the Waterloo battle sites starting in Brussels and finishing in Brugge. We anticipated a long day and while the Waterloo experience was good and the museum displays well worth visiting, we were disappointed with the quality of Mike's tour guiding and felt it did not justify the price. We paid 530 euros excluding the museum entry or site visits fees for the whole day, but including the drop off in Brugge. Mike did not outline the days itinerary, we had no idea of how many stops were proposed or how long to spend at each. The day was very long 9.30-6.30pm, which we had expected. However only one break was offered to purchase a drink from a small fuel station. There was never lunch or refreshment stops offered, or a packed lunch suggested. We would recommend the Waterloo visits but sadly Mike's tour - added very little to the experience.

Dear Stewart, I just saw your review, and I was totaly surprised. This review is unappropriated. To start, you complain about the rate, this quotation for a full day tour ending in Bruges was a very good rate. You should know that a taxi from Waterloo to Bruges would be around 300,00 Euros ! and you agreed with the final rate ! Regarding my tour description, as you came to me, I presumed you were willing to visit ALL the highlights as per my description ? About the food, I suggested to have a snack after the visit of the Visitors' center ? You denied it, this is your right, I have many clients who are not willing to spend time having lunch or snacks. Your " packed lunch suggestion " is something personal, this has nothing to do in a review. You should think more before writing this kind of reviews

Michael is very dependable, courteous and professional. He is flexible and responsive to the type of tour you would like. He is not, however, the type of tour guide who spontaneously volunteers a lot of information about the local area, people, culture or customs. There are certain attractions that he feels more comfortable to talk about (mainly churches and architecture) and in-between those attractions there can be long periods of silence. This was most evident in a 3 hr ride to Amsterdam where there was very little conversation and minimal discussion even driving through that city. I would recommend him especially if you have a very good idea of specifically what you would like to see. He will get you there safely. If, however, you are more inclined to spontaneous and free-spirited touring, this may not be the best choice. His knowledge base and comfort seems more limited to specific attractions and areas. Spontaneous conversation to get a feel for the area and culture is very limited, more consistent with what you would expect in a high end taxi or limo service.

What a great decision to go with Michael for a day long trip through Belgium to Luxembourg! We had considered taking the train and are so glad we didn't. Michael picked us up promptly at our hotel and then drove us through the countryside with stops along the way to see beautiful castles, churches and towns which we would have missed on the train. He was completely accommodating to requests for photo stops. Once we arrived in Luxembourg, he expertly guided us to the best locations to view the old city - little, hidden spots which we would have never found on our own. It was a long day but Michael made us feel comfortable whether we were asking questions or just quietly taking in the view. We highly recommend this experience.

My wife, my daughter and I spent 4 wonderful days with Micheal Eyns. He did a tremendous job showing us around Flanders, Ypres, Brugge, Ghent, many scenic river villages & castles, Bastogne, the Grand Duchy, Luxembourg City, plus our special requests (breweries). His background knowledge of all of the sites is unparrelled. He was extremely hard working, prompt and courteous and responsive to any of our requests. It was really like touring with family friend. He certainly made our visit memorable. You can simply do no better than to use his services.

Thankfully, the battlefield is largely as it appeared in 1815. Rolling hills, farm fields, the wooded and walled Hougoumont (well-restored) and la Haye Saint (not so much). Still, the vibe and the atmosphere is evocative of the crucial Napoleonic struggle that took place here. The museum is excellent. Creative displays, lots of artifacts. The great Lions mound is a bit of a distraction. But it does afford spectacular views of the entire battlefield. Two downsides: the busy road that runs right through the field, north to south, is a little offputting. And Napoleon’s command position was overgrown with shrubs when I was there.

Michael picked us up in Brussels at 9.30am and we spent the day visiting all the waterloo sights and crossing the battlefield at a leisurely pace including a lunch break
returning back to Brussels at 6.30 pm. Michael was an authoritative and accommodating guide.

I love this guy. Seriously, one of the best - if not THE best - tour guides I've ever contracted. All I requested was a pickup in Bruges, a tour of Ypres and Flanders Fields, then a drop off in Ghent. What I got was soooo much more. It's like ordering a cheeseburger and being served filet mignon - that's the feeling you get when you put yourself in Michael's hands. He drove me to Damme and explained not just when and how the canals were built but why. He took me BACK to Bruges and gave me the history of the town and why it was important. I had already spent a day there but looked at it in a whole new light because of Michael. We visited the Tyne Cot cemetery where he gave me some space (it was unexpectedly profound and moving, so I was grateful to be alone at that moment) then took me to the Passchendale museum so I could learn more about the battle, its circumstances and its horrible cost. He took me to a lovely restaurant in Ypres and helped recommend traditional Flemish dishes (beef Flemish stew - oh yeah) and when he heard I loved beer he got excited to take me to Westvleteren, sadly however it was closed on the day of our tour. As we wandered around Ypres he told the story of how the whole city was bombed to rubble but they rebuilt it exactly as it was - you'd never know. And he pointed out a number of statues that survived the war and were put back in their original niches. He took me to the private museum and preserved trenches of Hill 62 where we wandered and pondered. Never, at any time, did I feel rushed. I figured we'd be done at five sharp but at 7:00 we were just pulling into Ghent and he insisted on touring me around, even though I told him emphatically he had already exceeded every expectation. Thanks to him I didn't just see St. Bavo cathedral but walked down into the crypt to see the remains of the church that was there before the cathedral was built. Maybe I'm nuts but he seemed to enjoy the trip as much as I did! He was a very safe driver and a brilliant conversationalist. He knew so much about the history of the area (he even gave me lesson about Belgian cows) I came away with a far more intimate understanding of Belgium than I ever could have learned on my own. Michael is such good company (he even got my sense of humor, which I appreciated) and I was so sad when the day ended. I hope he never retires. They just don't get any better. Michael - every time I have a Belgian beer I will lift a glass to you. Thank you for a fantastic day.
