Had a nice lunch (vegetarian wrap and glass of wine) at the little cafe on the grounds. Not a huge garden, but lovely green space with sculpted topiaries, perfect for a stroll or a sit on the benches. A welcome break from the bustle of the city.

Brussels sure is a city that still holds some secrets. Abdij Ter Kameren is one of them. Just a few feet away from the busy shopping streets, you'll find this old abbey site with lovely gardens to stroll through. Most of the buildings on this site are not accessible, but make sure to pay a visit to the abbey church and enjoy it's stern beauty. The gardens are very well maintained and it is pleasure to explore the different levels of the site which offer varying views.

In spring or summer you can have a picnic on the benches and just enjoy a moment away from the busy city life.

Beautiful peaceful place in a busy surrounding, old monastery buildings, nicely kept gardens. Some people use it for exercise (run up and down the many stairs, make yoga on the grass), others to enjoy lunch ...

Like others have stated, this was such a surprise - peace and relaxation in the middle of all the bustle of city life. The two ponds to the north are worth a stroll around while there. The houses nearby present a most wonderful opportunity to study the variety of architecture found in this area.

This is a green and peaceful oasis in a busy area of uptown Brussels near the trendy Avenue Louise

It is also very close to one of the best concentrations of Art Nouveau houses in the city: Ixelles has some very striking examples of these architectures.

When at the Abbaye de la Cambre do visit the gothic church of Notre Dame, one nave, pretty cloister, modern colored glass windows. It is the oldest remaining building of the Abbey which used to be run by Cistercensian nuns.

The main entrance of the church was modified in the XVIII century but you can still see the older gothic portal underneath the more modern grey stone structure.

I only read of the Abbey's existence by chance in a guide book, it doesn't seem to be overly publicised as a tourist destination which is probably a good thing.

I initially had some trouble finding it after getting off the tram and had to ask a local for help, but that was possibly just my Northern Hemisphere disorientation at work and I couldn't follow maps. There was no signposting to it that I recall. It involves walking down a couple of smaller back streets off the main road.

Once there you have some nice grounds to stroll around, and plenty of seats to just sit and chill. It's easy to forget you're in the middle of a busy city. The abbey church was interesting to look around inside.

It's the place where the rich people who live around it come for jogging. And it's very beautiful, in architecture and nature.

Very peaceful grounds to walk around with lovely greenery. We didn't manage to go inside, it didn't look open, but worth a quick visit just to have a stroll around.

Thing is there is not much to do in the place as such, but that's not the point. Its relaxing strolling down through the garden, the pond, and the lovely courtyard and church. Its of course not big, just a small perfectly sized green space and oasis.
Simply a hidden gem in Ixelles.

It is rather unusual to find such a pleasant place in the middle of a large city. It’s great walking around the well kept gardens, the small pond and the church. The inside of the church is austere but it has some very interesting paintings of the 14 Stations of the Cross. It is really unfortunate, however, as is the case with so many public places in Brussels, that the Abbaye had to be defaced with graffiti.
