It doesn't happen often anymore that great churches are found on these grounds of times we live in: the St Catherine Church in Brussels makes all the difference though. Beautiful on the outside and wonderfully on the inside, it still is being used actively. A marvel to behold.

This is one among many churches and cathedrals in downtown Brussels. Eglise Sainte-Catherine is a larger cathedral with an imposing facade and relatively unpolished interior. It is a quiet place without many tourists.

St. Catherine's Church sits on the site of another church of the same name and the ruins can still be seen adjacent to the current building. The current building is looks like it was originally Gothic, but acquired Romanesque and Baroque characteristics after more renovation in the late 19th century. The latter two styles more obvious once you step inside. In fact you can easily see which part of the church was renovated and which part not. The older part of the building needs a serious clean, while the newer part is gleaming white. The interior of the church is very bland compared to the exterior and especially for a church of this scale. There's none of the stained glassed windows you'd expect from a church that's over 500 years old.

I wouldn't go specifically to see this church unless you have time. Pass the outside of the building and that's the best part.

Compared to the history of Brussels, this cathedral is relatively new, it dates back to the mid 18 hundred, but it is worth visiting.

I love to visit Place Saint Catherine and one of the highlights of this square and certainly the focal point is the magnificent Church.
Although this church wa built between 1854 _ 1874 there has been a place of worship on this spot for a lot longer.
The church looks amazing of a day but come nightfall it looks truelly stunning when illuminated.
I love the Baroque style of architecture of the church and it makes for some great photographic opportunities.
Besides visiting the church, the square were the church is house is surrounded by some great cafes and restaurants and is most definitely well worth checking out.

Massive and beautiful building. Outstanding inside and outside. Piece of architectural art that needs some time to examine it.

It is a nice church but I was expecting more from the outside. It was very dark inside. However, I was able to see some nice statues and architecture.

Looks like a Calvinist mob stripped it down to the peeling plaster walls. There's nothing to see inside.

Located in the St Catherine's area of Lower Town this beautiful church sits in an area surrounded by restaurants and cafes. I didn't get to see the interior but wandered around the area a few times admiring it from the outside.

Visit duration: 15 minutes

A recently constructed (1874)beautiful and decent church giving its name to the surrounding square and daily market.
The interior is very simple without heavy decoration.
