Located at the end of Quai Au Bois A Bruler ,the former dock and port area is an obelisk and fountain in honour of Jules Anspach ,it's a cool monument consisting of an obelisk ,allegorical figures ,dragons and the like ,it's such a beautiful monument and a prominent feature of the wonderful water feature, very photogenic ,makes for some great photographic opportunities,my twin brother Stephen and I were pub and bar hopping around Quai Au Bous A Bruler,it was great sitting in the sun outside a pub or bar and enjoying a beer in the sun taking in the views of the water feature and Fontaine Anspach.

Due to the chrissie markets (which are amazing) the large pool has a platform on it for all the stalls, (see piccies attached), however the fountain is still able to be seen, hidden amongst the chrissie-ness.

The Fontaine Anspach is a fountain in the north west of Brussels at one end of a large rectangular pool, in Quai aux Briques on Rue Locquenghien.

The centrepiece of the fountain is an obelisk, surrounded by fantastical dragon figures, nymphs and topped with Saint Michael casting out poor Lucifer in a scene from war in heaven. Near the base of the obelisk are two larger than life size female sculptures. One of the women represents the municipal magistracy, holding a rudder in one hand and a snake on the other, a symbol of prudence. The other female sculpture represents wisdom and justice, with an owl, symbol of wisdom associated with Athena and set of scales her feet.

It’s a little off the main tourist circuit, but is a major landmark in Brussels and worth a look

This fountain is an imposing structure. Inaugurated in 1897 at the Place de Brouckère, it was dismantled and replaced on the current site in 1981. It pays homage to Jules Anspach, former mayor of Brussels in the 19th century. Magnificent work which is worth seeing if you pass through the Sainte Catherine district. Unfortunately no water during my visit.
