This place is worth a visit, when you eventually find the entrance. In typical Belgian fashion, it is hard to find and once you have a ticket there is a series of stairs and corridors to negotiate before you see anything in the slightest surreal. It's worth the walk though. Good pictures and other exhibits. Just don't expect the man... More

Most of Magritte's more well known works are not held in this museum (i.e. most of his "notable works" listed on wikipedia), despite the size of its collection, most art works are bequeathed by the Magritte's wife. so it may be a disappointment for some who are expecting to see the more famous paintings. on the other hand the museum... We ducked in here because we had just left the Place Royale and it started to rain. Lucky us!! Who knew that there was an unbelieve collection of surrealist works here? It is one of the pieces of the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Belgium. Add this as a definite DO NOT MISS to your itinerary!

An extensive museum, but the old masters are the real attraction, particularly the Breughels, as they have an interesting interactive display system. You leave the museum well informed and glowing with images from them. The Magritte is also worth making time, the exhibition 1885 to 1914 is an interesting aspect to cover, but we were tired by the end and... More

This museum is one of the few such large museums in the world dedicated to one artist. The Magritte was one of the best-known surrealist painters. Only for specialized public.

Others can give more detailed information about this museum on Magritte. Suffice to say it was worth a visit on a cool and rainy day in Brussels. THe detail on the man and his personal life, accompanied by many photos proved very interesting, even if you were not a great fan of his work.

The photos of Magritte with his contemporaries add more interest to the paintings. A couple of the most famous paintings aren't kept here, but that means you get to focus on the others.

It always difficult seeing an artist whose work has a similarity to other artists in the same era. This was pretty good. But the stand out was the photography capturing his love for his wife and their love story throughout the exhibition

Prior to my visit to Brussels, I asked friends for suggestions n regards to local attractions and one friend suggested the Musee Magritte Museum. Not having any understanding of this local artist (1920 - 1967 approx), and learning Rene Magritte was a Surrealist painter, I was excited and intrigued to learn more. Visiting the website to purchase tickets ahead of... More
