Wellington said after this was built in 1830, "You have spoilt my Battlefield." It is true because a lot of the higher ridge of land was shaved off to make this mound. Having said that if you can manage 'slowly' to get to the top on a good day it is great especially if you have an idea of what... More

When I arrived I actually didn't know what to expect. As it turns out there is this huge artifical hill with the statue of a lion on top (I was expecting just a plain). However, as we walked around we discovered that there is in fact a huge museum under ground (probably because they didn't want to upset all the... More

The Wellington & Napoleon museums are some distance away and so not covered in the main "Memorial" ticket. This costs 16 euros for adults and 13 Euros for students and seniors. For this you get a 20min 4D film, a walk through the museum between rows of beautifully uniformed soldiers, access to the wonderful Panorama which was itself dates from... More

The visitor centre was absolutely awe inspiring. For anyone who hasn't looked into the Battle of Waterloo, it is a must to capture your imagination. The centre is very new (built within the last year or so to commemorate the bi-centenary of the battle). It is packed with fabulous up to date models with uniforms of the French, Belgian, Prussian... To top off a very interesting visit to the Waterloo museum, which was recently modernized for the 200 yr anniversary (very nice job indeed!), we treated ourselves to the Virtual Reality experience on top of the mountain. Very impressive to experience how this new technology brings history to life - and finally really understood what happened that day. Children loved... More

After cycling for 2 hours from Brussels to the memorial, we were greatly disappointed with an entrance price of €17 to climb it. We did not want to visit the museum, but you have to pay for both. Sad that it is so expansive to climb a mountain. You can also walk outside, around the memorial and have a view... More

Lion's mound has 226 steps up, not easy but worth the climb. Panorama is a bit boring. The museum is wonderful. Highly recommended!

Well worth a visit to say you've witnessed a location that influenced the future of Europe. The view of the battlefield is amazing and evocative to think what happened below you all those years ago. Also an excellent, informative museum.

Very interesting and informative museum and the views from the Butt du Lion are certainly worth the climb up the steep steps. We took our three children (9, 12,13) and they really enjoyed the visit. Well worth a visit.

The mound dates back about 150 years, the museum underneath just a few. Both are well worth the visit, as is the interactive experience at the top. A wonderful place, full of fascinating insights - check out how a Parisian newspaper described Bonapart as he drew nearer to the capital!
