Thank you Carl. This trip was a pilgrimage for my mum, who had lost 2 uncles in WW1, and Carl brought the war, its context and my great uncles' likely experiences to life. He is extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject and took us on a bespoke tour including Essex farm, Yorkshire trenches, langemark cemetery, Tyne cot, messines, Berkshire cemetery, peace Island, meningate and many more spots. Six day guided cycling tour of Western front WW1 battlefields and memorials with Carl Ooghe of Salient Tours. Carl was outstanding. Prompt, flexible (we wanted to see a particular memorial), patient (11 year old son on trip) and immensely knowledgeable. His English was also impeccable. We were absolutely thrilled with every aspect of this experience. Carl's knowledge, thoughtfulness and passion for the subject, made this a life-changing experience for our whole family. ( Two adults with three teenage children). If we had tried to make this trip without Carl, we would have missed so many sites and never had an overview of the situation. Outstanding guide dealing w/ a very difficult subject; can't be done w/o one. Carl's erudition and enthusiasm for the subject hugely additive. Bring boots for hiking in ditches, tunnels etc., and ranger.
