About De Ruien
The sewers, otherwise known as De Ruien, are a shadow of the rich history above ground. Sewers, streams and fortifications have crisscrossed Antwerp ever since the Middle Ages. This network of both natural and man-made waterways provided the city with water and an internal harbour.

Was a interesting way of learning and seeing the city. It's different from the usual tours and we loved it. Carrying two backpacks is a bit heavy, but we made it. The smell is indeed quite rotten, but if you can bare that, it is a must.

We went during our two-day trip to Antwerp and this walking tour was one of our highlights. Its so unusual and fun to walk the city from an underground experience. As I'm interested in both history and ecology, it was very rewarding. The tourguide was nice, attentive and a bit of a spooky character which is great for kids. I would recommend it especially for families with kids who like to do something unusual and informative. Yes, it smells and yes, there are rats and spiders, but thats part of the deal! I didnt feel engrossed or unsafe at any point :)

If you are a germ freak, do not visit this place. So my brother wanted to visit because in the website it looked so cool and beautiful. They gave us boots, coveralls, backpack to put everything in, and ipad and headphones. It took about 90 minutes from putting on everything till the end of the tour. The underground stinks! and the ipad was so heavy. I concentrated on not letting anything else touch me that I actually did not learn any history:P However, it was a new experience and you will be glad that you visit. The staff was nice and caring. Hope they can improve on visitor's experience and the smell a bit.

I went to De Ruien with my boyfriend because looking on the website it looked so interesting. When we went to get the boat tour, the woman on the desk seemed annoyed and stated it was not running because of “technical problems” (despite this not being displayed online or in leaflets) and rudely said the last tour had left for the day and we needed to book online. We still booked onto the walking tour for the next day and when we got there it was very cool! The sewers smell but are much as I expected, with the tablet being very informative with English subtitles despite being spoken in Dutch. The man supervising spoke English but it was difficult to understand which unfortunately made some of the tour difficult to follow. Overall, it’s a great experience but could be better for non-Dutch speakers. Be prepared to walk through some questionable looking water!
