About
M HKA - the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp - is one of the eight major institutions of the Flemish Community. The museum keeps its finger on the pulse of current events in contemporary art both at home and abroad. Located in the avant-garde city par excellence, M HKA houses a rich and diverse collection which it displays in frequently changing presentations both inside and outside the museum. M HKA is a dynamic meeting place for art, artists and culture lovers alike; every year, it presents a versatile exhibition program that is supplemented with numerous artists' talks, performances, lectures, book presentations, walking talks and activities for young and old. Also, every Thursday, the museum is open at night until 9 p.m. The M HKAFE, M HKA's welcoming cafeteria, is the ideal place for a drink or a delicious lunch.

We visited all the museums in the city and this one was a real disappointment...
Not only because of the poor exhibition, but the building inside is in urgent need of renovation and the staff is anything but motivated.

Finally, the ticket price is not in proportion to the current exhibition and what is 'promised' on the website...
Anyone who comes to see Panamarenko will be disappointed, they have neatly tucked away this exhibition in a separate house for which you can pay an extra 20 euros.

Unusual young art - at one installation there was even a delicious cake to try for free. Luckily the friendly young attendant pointed this out to us, we thought the cake was a work of art! The museum's press work is also impressive.

Okay, if you are in to the avant-guard, this place is for you. Not me. I LOVE contemporary art, but this does not meet that need. I know I should have done my home work. This is not a MOMA, New York, and I am sure the curator would say so. Shame on me for not checking better before going. I suggest you do so before going. Enough said, I wasted my time.

Thanks to its location near the Scheldt and the Vlaamse and Waalse Kaai with many restaurants and bars, it is worthwhile to walk to the museum from the heart of town. Pleas note: take a route through the trendy Hoogstraat with a lot of vintage and design shops and outlets. The museum focuses on conceptual art, which is not the easiest art. In addition, one can also enjoy the beautiful museum building. Do not miss the top floor where there is a restaurant with terraces with stunning views over river and city

My students and I took an interactive guided tour today and learned a lot about contemporary art. The guide was wonderful, as was the art. We had a great time. Thank you.

I have visited this museum a number of times now and you never know what you get.

Like with most contemporary art the impressions can vary from dislike to admiration

Maybe that's the idea, to tickle the brain with art

This time there was an interesting exhibition about wind called "The wind egg" which was an interesting mix of history and science

The other galleries had some interesting art as well with graphic art for me as a highlight

And it was worth it. Rey interesting exhibits, and a dedicated staff. Great contemporary architecture. Part free, part paying.
If your in the Zuid, give it a try. Some cool eateries close by.

Whenever we are in Antwerp, we visit this museum for modern art. Don't go there if you don't appreciate conceptual art. But even if you do, it's a bit of a gamble whether you will enjoy yourself -- unless of course you know that there is an exhibition of an unmissably favourite artist.

Of the exhibitions currently on, we thought Jan Fabre truly marvelous, and the others completely uninteresting. But we spent some two hours on Jan (partly because of the many videoclips of performances), and were thus very happy we once more made our way to this somewhat excentric part of Antwerp. What a passionately thinking, uncompromising, and committed artist Fabre is! (The exhibition runs until 26 July 2015).
