Wonderful statue and an amazing legend. Antwerp is a fantastic city and a visit to the statue of Brabo is a must. There is usually some kind of music going on in the evenings in the square.

One of the best fountains in Europe. Huge and unique, it is one of the best things I ever saw in my life. Interesting also the history of its main character, the warrior who freed the city from a giant. This fountain is probably the biggest example of how rich and important this city has always been.

Silvius Brabo which is a mythical Roman soldier who is said to have killed a giant. Very beautiful statue in front of the Antwerp City Hall. Legendary Statue of Antwerp.

Silvius Brabo is a mythical Roman soldier who is said to have killed a giant, who was asking money from people who wanted to pass the bridge over the river Scheldt. If people did not give him money, he would then cut their hand and throw to the river. To this respect Brabo became a legend and best spot to... More

Old city squares that is. Flanked by churches and other buildings in perfect condition. Very few tourists mid morning when I was there. Interestingly they were setting up for the Trials worlds - would have been great o have watched had the diary permitted. Brabo is a 'nice to have' but it is not the highlight.

Even into the seventeenth century, Antwerp was often written as ‘Hantwerpen’. According to the legend, at the beginning of our era, there was a giant Druoon Antigoon on the Scheldt river. This giant took a heavy toll from each passing shipmaster. Those who refused to pay had a hand chopped off. But this ended when a Roman soldier, Silvius Brabo,... More

This market is very romantic during the evening time when all the lights are on, especially during a typical cold rainy day it gives a special image and atmosphere which is typical for this market place. During the day it looks very different. You do not want to drive with all the pedestrians walking around and taking pictures of the... More

Silvius Brabo is a mythical Roman soldier who is said to have killed a giant, and by this would have created the name Brabant. Later this story was also used to explain the name Antwerp (meaning hand throwing). Brabo once killed a giant, called Druon Antigoon, who asked money from people who wanted to pass the bridge over the river... More
