Zurenborg may be off the beaten trail when it comes to Antwerp's attractions, but the neighbourhood deserves a few hours of one's morning or afternoon to leisurely stroll about, admiring the lovely facades of its buildings in various styles, especially in Art Nouveau but also Neo-Classical, Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance, and of course stop at one of the many cafes, bars... Stumbled into this area rather by accident but oh my god! If you like Art Nouveau architecture you'll simply love this place!

It is not very large area but packed with art nouveau (and not only) houses. Very well preserved. For best pictures go in winter (plus minus a month) - when trees are with no leaves. Funny spot where Guldenvliesstraat meets Transvaalstraat near the rail road wall - a herb and vegetable garden by locals. I saw similar in the richest... More

Not spectacular as the main train station or the cathedral, but a must-see for architecture lovers. When the city grew in the late 19th century, there was a competition in which architects would design individual houses of a new development. Hence, this neighboorhood gives a unique view on the Art Nouveau movement of the time. Stroll around in the streets,... More

Find different styles of architecture in an area of a square mile. Mostly build around 1900 and well maintained.

Walk. See. Feel the Art Nouveau in practically every house. This area of Antwerp dates from around the year 1900. Stunning architecture, with a purpose: there is coherence, a plan behind. It was also only a rather limited group of architects that created this brilliantly perserved beauty. I could only find one modern house (pretty in fact, even in that... More

Found the route in one of our Guide books, but our host at our B&B also recommended it. Easy to get to by tram, allow 45 minutes to an hour just because you will take so many pictures. The intersection with the Four Seasons on each corner is not to be missed!

Zurenborg Antwerp is the finest art nouveau suburb in the world better than Brussels, Vienna or Barcelona. The main street Cogels Osylei is to die for but all the other streets are fantastic too; there is only one modern house and that is interesting too. In addition the local airport is nearby and one of the two main railway, bus... More

Same area as Cogels-Osylei. See there for my local-born appreciation. Worth a visit, walk amidst these preserved and now protected houses!
