The oldest street of Antwerp (1591) de “Vlaeykensgang” accessible by three streets; de Oude Koornmarkt, de Hoogstraat en de Pelgrimstraat. This medieval street is hidden and easily walked by without knowing. There are a few restaurants and an art gallery. You will find nice old restored architectural houses of the 15 and 16th century.

During your visit in Antwerp, make sure to take a historical detour in the Vlaeykensgang. During WW2 this is where my father lived, and the small houses still resemble that time very good. Should you happen to be in Antwerp on a monday evening during the summer months, this is by far the best place to enjoy the carillon performance.

Not that easy to find, but once you found it, it's jawdropping beautiful. You get a good idea how people lived here in the 16th century

the most peculiar narrowest alley in Antwerp saved by the famous Antwerp Antique and Fine Art Connoisseur Axel Vervoordt is really a hidden pearl in the shell of ancient Antwerp that breaths the past and inhales the future and helps the tourist to escape from the hectic neighborhood of the Old town of Antwerp, listening during summer season to the... If there's one off-the-track place you have to visit when coming to town (het Stad) it will have to be this closed-off street. You access indeed via a door to a string of narrow cobble-stoned pathways. It was actually discovered and restored by a friend of mine in the Sixties, full of rubbish and abandoned. Now, fully restored and lined... More

Authentic little gem in the middle of the old town. Two entrances : Hoogstraat and Suikerrui next to Popoff's. It used to be where the poor cobblers used to live and then was bought by an antique dealer. Now a few eateries are in it besides some apartments.

One has to look for the entrance, as you easily pass by it. But once you found it, it is really worthwhile strolling through it slowly from beginning till end, as there are so many beautiful details and cosy places, amongst which of course also very nice and good restaurants.

Go back in time and discover the old street pattern of the city. Listen to the clocks of the Cathedral and stroll around.

Almost literally a step back in time, because this place is so small you can almost cover it in just one step. Just a little reminder how most of the city was not so long ago. You're probably in the area anyway, so take a few minutes to discover this lovely little time-locked gem.

Been to Antwerp several times and never went there before. We discovered it by accident, but it's so nice... you really shouldn't miss it. It's a nice escape from the busy streets :-) . It only takes a few minutes to stroll through and I'd be surprised if you wouldn't love this! There are also a few nice restaurants with... More
