Grand looking building.

Vlaamse Opera is the wonderful opera house located in the beautiful city of Antwerp.
Built in 1834 on the site of a former opera house this building looks amazing, never ventured inside as I have no interest in opera but I love the grand looking buildings of cities I visit and the Vlaamse Opera is one of the best pieces of architecture in this part of town, a very photogenic building that makes for some great photographic opportunities.
Easy to locate on a street called Frankrijklei and most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.

Giselle

The building is also very impressive on the inside. High ceiling and steep if you're sitting high. Good acoustics. We enjoyed 'Giselle' performed by the ballet of Flanders. Nice music too!

A first visit to this opera house
Mar 2018 • Couples
In my 17 visits to Vlaamse Opera, the first 16 have all been in Ghent. As they were only performing Parsifal in Antwerp, Antwerp it must be. The auditorium is impressive and generates excellent acoustics. The area on the 2nd(?) floor where drinks are served at the interval provides a pleasant, though very crowded experience - despite the crowds, the bar staff were very efficient.

Here and there the building looks in need of a little TLC and in my opinion there is an underprovision of toilets. I was surprised that the entrance to the toilets is through a curtain rather than a door which could be closed.

The production of Parsifal which I saw in Ghent in 1999 was the best I have ever seen. This newer production was weirdly fascinating/fascinatingly weird. It held my attention throughout - I didn't even nod off during Gurnemanz's 1st act narration. Tanja Ariane Baumgartner as Kundry and Erin Caves as Parsifal were superb and I thought the orchestral playing was magnificent.

Beautiful building. Have watched a few ballets over there. It's nice to have drink in "Foyer" from the balcony. View on the famous shopping street Meir.

Great setting and fabulous production

This was a real treat for us during our three-day visit to Ghent. We travelled to and from Antwerp on the train and walked the short distance to the Opera House. The production and singing were superb and we had a fabulous evening.

Neo-Baroque Opera House

A night out to experience Don Giovanni in the Vlaanderen Opera House of Antwerp was fabulous. After the rennovation the building has been restored to it's former glory. Great acoustics, and a world class performance.

Stunning building
Apr 2015 • Couples
If you do not have the chance to see a performance or any other Opera show, well you can only admire the building from outside trying to get any little architectural detail.
However very nice building, I guess it would be a nice experience to see some of the spectacle inside it.

A night at the opera
Feb 2015 • Solo
Visited yesterday evening for a production of Akhnaten. The production was excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The performance was stunning and really world class and I would recommend seeing anything this company does. The Opera House is well sign posted if you don't know the area and no more than a 5 minute walk from the railway station.

As a solo traveller, I had the 3rd seat in a box (for 3) on the first balcony. The box itself was really small, OK for two people but not three. The third seat is a high stool so you can at least see over the heads of the two people in front of you but any attempt to move the stool will mean that you will be apologising as you accidentally bump the other people. This seat was not worth the top category price.

my favorite place!
Nov 2014 • Friends
as opera fan of course this is my fav building... beautiful architecture, art everywhere, music danse acting... what would I want more? A drink? Well during the breaks you can have a beer or champagne in the beautiful foyer.
And yes! The performances are well worth buying a ticket.
They have cheap tickets too... That's how I started out... top row of the highest balcony... and surprise! That's one of the places with the best accoustics!
