This statue of the Belgian story (British novel 1872) that few Belgians know, but is famous in Japan, in laying in front of the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwcathedral. It seems like the pavement is the blanket of the boy. As a tourist of Antwerp you definitely pass by...More

This statue has a story behind it with many locals not knowing the provenance of where it started. My understanding is that it is reference to characters in a book by a Japanese writer, the story is very popular in South Korea and Japan, which...More

We were pleasantly surprised to see the little boy and his faithful dog just lying there, sleeping peacefully, right outside the big Cathedral. It is the very touching story of pride and unconditional friendship; that of a little boy, Nello and his abandoned street dog,...More

The Memorial statue is in front of the Cathedral, easy to find and the works were finished. If you’ll visit during the morning, the place is not so crowded and you can admire it.

Literally a very large smooth statue of a boy and his dog sleeping under a cobblestone blanket literally dwarfed me in size. It's crafted after a British story called "A Dog of Flanders" by Marie Louise de la Ramée. She wrote the story after witnessing...More

The statue is ok but the surrounded area I do not feel nice how the stones surrounded the statue are, doesn’t show gratitude to the Japanese from which they got the statue and made the connection between Hoboken and Antwerp Also most guides in Antwerp...More

The story about a young boy and his dog is touching, and the English version was used as a junior reader for many years in Japan. The memorial is located close to the Cathedral and was funded by the Toyota Corporation. It is a good...More

This is a very cute statue, very inventive and well integrated into the local environment. I just wish people would stop climbing over it. Just admire guys! You don’t have to stand on it or sit on it.

Really loved this sculpture. It's modern and gives a calming feel when you see it. I found it fascinating to look at, especially the way the cobbles seem seamless from the ground to the sculpture.

Take a minute to look at the white marble statute of Nello and Patrache. The sad story of the poor young man and his dog still moves every visitor, but most surely every Japanese who set foot in Antwerp. The story has put Antwerp on...More
