- WA VWageningen, The Netherlands1,555 contributionsThe Hofvijver at the Binnenhof under renovation. Once photographed from the watchtower, which is 28 meters high. The watchtower is temporary and free to climb. Especially a lot of tourists today. So you have to join the queue and wait your turn, because there is a limit of the number of visitors who can be on the watchtower at the same time.Visited July 2024Traveled soloWritten July 29, 2024
- Herbert C1,948 contributionsIn the centre of The Hague lies a 14th century natural dune lake with an islet filled with overgrown plants and trees. This is Hofvijveree, a small unassuming lake that has been touted as the birthplace of The Hague, and with the Binnenhof (governmental buildings) and Torentje (housing the Prime Minister's office) overlooking the lake on one side, it's the undeniable centre of power for the Netherlands today. Across this rectangular-shaped lake from the Binnenhof lies the tree-lined Lange Vijverberg street, from where you can take in the picturesque views of the lake against the backdrop of the city's medieval and modern skyline that will surely encourage countless instagrammable snapshots. If you're not into photo-taking, then just relax on one of the benches along the shady Lange Vijverberg to feel the sense of calm and serenity, or simply wonder at why the statue of Jantje (Little John) is pointing to the Binnenhof. After all, this is the area where The Hague was founded that is now Netherland's seat of power.Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten August 12, 2024
- dellangelo54Turin, Italy17,816 contributionsBeautiful pond in the center of The Hague overlooked by the Binnenhof and the building where the Mauritshuis museum is located. In the center there is an islet. On the opposite side of the aforementioned buildings there is a beautiful avenue where you can walk with benches.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 1, 2024

At the back of the beautiful Binnenhof buildings is a large lake with great views of the government 13th century buildings. Great area for taking photographs of the buildings. Also lots of benches to sit and enjoy the view.

Absolutely stunning views of the lake, the historical buildings, and the scyscrapers in the background. Worth experiencing both in the day and night. Plenty of benches to sit down and take it all in. A must-do when visiting The Hague and it's absolutely free!

The Hofvijver is not really a pond but actually a lake fed by a water flow from the dunes of Kijkduin. It was created from a natural lake in 1248 by William the second when he built the first castle on the location. Now it is a mesmerizing backdrop to the centre of government, the Binnenhof, and the small tower which is the office of the prime minister.

We arrived at the golden hour and this was one 9f the first things we saw in Hague. It was straight from the fairytale. Worth to visit and relax in the small park for couple of minutes.

Hofvijver is a beautiful lake next to Binnenhof in Central Den Haag. The whole area surrounding the lake is stunning and it is worth spending some time there to take in the incredible views, there are many photo opportunities to be had from Lange Vijverberg of Hofvijver and the Houses of Parliament in the background. We visited the lake several times during our time in Den Haag, it is a wonderful part of the city.

At first glance the Court pond (Hofvijver) looks like an artificial rectangular shallow pond serving to beautify the setting of the houses of parliament. However, it originally was and to some extent still is a natural dune lake. Until around 1800 the castle of the counts of Holland (now parliament) was encircled by moats and lake. The moats were filled up, but the lake wasn't. The lake is still fed by the Haagse beek (Hague brook) and linked with other dunelakes.
