About
The Mauritshuis is home to the very best of Dutch Golden Age painting. The compact, yet world-renowned collection, is situated in the heart of The Hague, right next to the government centre. Masterpieces such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, The Goldfinch by Fabritius and The Bull by Potter are on permanent display in the intimate rooms of this seventeenth-century monument.

A gem of a museum, not huge or imposing but beautifully formed.
Most people probably know The Girl with A Pearl Earing from the film starring Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth or perhaps The Goldfinch as a film but coming to the Mauritshuis you get to see the real paintings and they are stunning. Along with some Rembrand's and a stunning view of Delft by Vermeer.
The Museum itself is a beautiful building with a rather splendid brasserie.
A must for any visit to The Hague

If you visit The Hague, a visit to the Mauritzhuis should not be missed. The works of art are world class and the museum itself is historically important. We did the must-sees of the museum. In one hour you have seen the most important works. Buying the tickets on site went very smoothly. The app on your mobile works very smoothly.

To see those paintings in the flesh, after reading and hearing so much about them, did not disappoint. This was totally worth the train journey from Amsterdam.

The place is very modern inside but the audio system does not fully work. Not fully running yet was the answer given.

Nice museum, great painters/paintings but a bit of everything and nothing. No clear story, and too many paintings in the same room, especially when it's crowded it's hard to see everything.

What a gem of a little museum. It was the perfect size for my teen son who is not a fan of art museums. Be sure and see The Girl With the Pearl Earring, and Vermeer's landscape of Delft in the same room. There is so much wonderful art here. I loved the contemporary responses that were also on display. There is a nice gift shop. Well worth the day trip to the Hague. Afterward we wandered the waterfront and visited the Gatehouse museum.

This isn't a large museum, but it has an excellently curated collection (the opposite of say, the Louvre, which is enormous but can be "too much"). Included are Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, and View of Delft, some great Hans Holbeins, and more. This is worth a day trip from Amsterdam, especially as the rest of The Hague is enjoyable to walk in and there are more sights to see. One other note is that the museum is more handicapped friendly than other European musuems, with easily accessible and prominent elevators to each floor.

This was on my must see list- having the last self portrait by Rembrandt. So many beautiful paintings in a lovely setting. Allow 3 hours or as much as you can manage. Wonderful gift shop with quality prints, woven bags, and Vermeer Girl with the Pearl Earring merchandise. Great volunteers there as well.

What a WONDERFUL museum. This intimate museum allows you to get up close and personal to the art. Not at all crowded (go first thing upon opening) and you won’t believe how much time and access you can get to master works by Vermeer, Rembrandt and Rubens - and discover new favorite artists. It doesn’t take long to go through this whole museum - and it’s worth every minute.

I am planning to visit the museum on 3rd October 2019. Will it be crowded - do I need to buy the tickets in advance?

We are coming on a Friday in March, what time would be best to get there? We will be taking a day trip from Amsterdam and would also like to see the international court building. Any advice in planning our day would be appreciated! Thank you

The museum opens from 10 to 6 so you can come anytime you want. I took the morning train from Amsterdam and got there around 11:30 and it wasn't busy. I suggest however to book your tickets online to avoid waiting in line, you know just in case. As for the IC, i didn't visit it but went instead to De Mesdag museum and the Peace Palace, a must see in my opinion. Enjoy!
