The Mauritshuis is home to the very best of Dutch Golden Age painting. The compact, yet world-renowned collection, is situated in the heart of The Hague, right next to the government centre. Masterpieces such as Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp by Rembrandt, The Goldfinch by Fabritius and The Bull by Potter are on permanent display in the intimate rooms of this seventeenth-century monument.

    Wonderful art gallery
Although not a large gallery, it holds a high class collection of Dutch and Flemish paintings from the 15th to 18th century. There are 2 floors with 8 rooms on each floor. Room 1 starts with Rubén’s and Room 15 has Vermeer’s works (including Girl with Pearl Earring). In between there are plenty of other old masters to enjoy. I booked my ticket in advance but showed up 30 mins early and was allowed in no problem. Overall a very high quality museum located in the heart of The Hague and a must visit for art lovers.

    Great gallery
Loved this museum. Finally saw The Girl with the Pearl Earrings along with various Dutch artists. The inside is fantastic, the house is close to 400 years old! The gallery itself wasn't overcrowded, maybe given I visited in the off season. But all in all, enjoyed the experience.

    Fine Museum, great collection.
Nice Museum really taken care of, attentive staff, fluent in Dutch and English. Often a special exhibition part: do not forget to check website and make reservation. Direct connection / by-pass to the nice and good cafe, opposite of the street. Enjoy the good service!

Totally amazing place - a must visit.
Absolutely amazing place. Knocks spots off the Rijksmuseum. It is cosy and intimate and you don't feel hurried. You get to stand in front of the fabulous artwork without being pushed and shoved by other visitors. At last I got to see The Girl with the Pearl Earring. It was magical. The Loot exhibition was an additional extra which was brilliant. The virtual reality was amazing although I got vertigo standing atop the Brandenburg gate. It was more than well worth the trip from Amsterdam and I cannot praise it highly enough. The staff were welcoming and on hand should you need them. Also, don't forget to visit the William 5th gallery a mere stones throw away which is included in your ticket. Cannot recommend highly enough.

A real must visit if in The Hague. You have to book in advance, and there are options for the main collection and exhibitions. The house itself is very impressive and there are some stunning art works. The Girl with the Pearl Warning is a real high point.

    The Best Museum I Visited!
This place is small but the collection is magnificent! There's Girl with the Pearl Earring of course but there are other magnificent paintings too! I love the Rembrandts. I really loved Rubens' Old Woman and Boy with Candles. Also Vermeer's View of Delft. I loved the still lifes too. All in all, really worth the trip

    Beautiful Dutch masters
The museum is in a beautiful house, pre ordered tickets is recommended which come with a time slot. There is a lift for good accessibility. The collection is amazing with the Girl with Pearl Earring the star but very many other great paintings.

The girl indeed has a pearl and much more!
I feel fortunate to have been able to visit the Muritshuis Museum of Dutch artists. I first encountered Dutch art in Amsterdam Rijek Museum in 2008. It was special to visit Muritshuis and see more exceptional artwork. From Rembrandt to Jan, I am amazed at the paintings. My guide was a friendly, intelligent, and very knowledgeable woman who shared fascinating insights into the paintings and the creators. The Girl with the Pearl is a highlight. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. While there is an elevator at the entrance, once inside the house, there are grand staircases. The house itself is wonderfully preserved. There is a shop located inside for souvenirs and the jewelry is beautiful.

Definitely come for the art (but not for the hospitality)
I got the tram from the Kunstmuseum to the Mauritshuis, and when I arrived the area was a bit of a building site. If you walk around the building site you come to a square full of cafe's and the entrance to the Mauritshuis is on the far side. It was an awful lot busier than the Kunstmuseum and that may explain the surly, unwelcoming staff that work there. If I was rating based on the visitor experience I'd probably have given it a 2 at most, but then you come to room 15. Some picures are so ubiquitous that you become a little blasé about them, but I was absolutely gobsmacked by the 'Girl with the Pearl Earring'. Unlike the Louvre, where the Mona Lisa is behind a screen some distance away from the public, you can get right up close to the 'Girl with the Pearl Earring', and the subtelty of the colours is astounding. I've visited quite a few galleries over the years but this painting really took my breath away. The fact that she shares the room with Vermeers' also stunning 'View of Delft', a couple of fine paintings by Gerard ter Borch and a wonderful 'Brothel Scene' by Frans van Mieris among others makes this one of the world's great rooms of art. There are a few great Rembrandts also in the house, with 'The Anatomy Lesson of Nicholas Tulp' and 'Homer' standing out, along with Jan Steen and other greats of the Dutch Golden Age being represented. It's certainly worth the trip to see the art at the Mauritshuis, but don't expect a warm welcome.

In my view, this is a must-see if you're planning on traveling to The Netherlands, The Hague in particular. I do love art history but by no means am I am expert. The Mauritius Royal Picture Gallery is for everyone. It's a manageable size spread over just 2 floors but jam-packed with incredible historical gens, the gallery has its own free app which you download to your smartphone which is loaded with information about every painting, (I'd recommend you bring your headphones so you can listen to and absorb all the information without disturbing your fellow art admirers) including the mesmerizing ”The Girl With The Pearl Earring” which would be the galleries most famous exhibit. There is an extra special exhibition room which they use to show some special works. Check the website before you plan your trip, you could be in for a real treat. I loved this gallery. It's been a highlight of my time here in NL.

This wonderful gallery was the reason for our city break in The Hague. We chose January as the helpful lady on the telephone suggested this timing would avoid queues and she was correct. We were able to see and appreciate the famous (and some less well-known) pictures without crowds. I must thank the patient staff member who took my phone and loaded up the Mauritshuis app - this gives superb commentaries on key pictures. It’s also a great souvenir. I love the way room attendants engage you in conversation and add value to your visit by pointing out things you might have missed. Finally don’t miss the shop and the brasserie which are up to the same standard.

A relatively small museum, but... Vermeer, Rembrandt, Steen and many other top masters. During Covid 2019 epidemy you need to purchase ticket via their website with the indicated entrance time. For the art lovers, reserve minimum 3-4 hours. Audioguides not available but there is free app for smartphones and tablets. Not very successful with only few art objects fully deacribed. Be prepared for some waiting as the entrance to the rooms is limited. Anyway, this place is a must.

This is a lovely Museum. It is very small with only 2 floors of exhibits, but it displays some of the best Dutch artwork. The staff is polite, friendly, attentive, and they greet you with a smile. Communication in English is not a problem as the staff speaks perfect English. Taking pictures is currently permitted as long as you don’t use flash and your pictures are for personal use. Check with the Museum for additional information. Length of visit? I would say 2-3 hours. If you go when it opens, you’ll avoid the crowds specially around the Girl with a Pearl Earring. We went at 10 AM when it opened and had to the place all to ourselves for about 30 min or so. I recommend you go to the Girl with the Pearl Earring first and take all the pics and selfies you want while the place is fairly empty. The Goldfinch was also busy after a while…

Mauritshuis is a one of a kind well thought, conveniently arranged for all art lovers needs museum- four in one experience to the highest standards: exuberant historic building in the hart of the city, exquisite art collection, smart marketing model on all souvenir collection at the museum shop (hard to resist) and a stylish cafe to share impressions over a cup of coffee about Dutch Golden Age masterpieces.
So far, Mauritshuis has offered the most enriching, 360 degree satisfaction experience from the first visit onward and by now I've been two or three times including the themed event. And want to come back for another great collection.

I visited Mauritshuijs just a day after the George Stubbs exhibition opened. Luckily being a friday morning the place was'nt too full. The small but fine exhibition kept me occupied for almost an hour, but I then chose to see the permanent exhibitions as well. A lovely selection of dutch artists, mostly of the 17th and 18th century. Some well known, others less but yet very capable. Lovely works, small and large. No modern art, so if that's your passion you might choose a different museum to visit. Classic, historic art at its best.

Very good collection of paintings in a small intimate location. Make sure to reserve your time/date on time. One good thing is that the museum is at least open on Mondays from 1 pm (which normally lots of other museums are closed)

I lived in tDen Haag as a teen and this was probrably the jewl of the city. Kids are free and the security is top notch. It is a perfect length of a museam since it is small so perfect for kids attention spans. Me and my sister liked to pop in and see the Girl With the Pearl Earing when ever we wanted to because of the free admission.

A collection of paintings of a quality to match any museum in the world. It is a pity that even allowing for corona measures in force we had to show our pre-bought electronic tickets no less than four times during the visit - once at the gate, then at the entrance, then again at the entrance to the special exhibition of horse paintings by George Stubbs, then again when moving over to the regular collection. This should have been organized in a better way!

Not the largest but one of the best art museums I have ever visited. Many beautiful and known to most people masterpieces. It's worth spending some time to admire every painting and listen to the commentary in the tour app. I Will definitely come back!
