For over a century the Rijnhaven basin was accessible to seagoing vessels, but since the transition in the 1990s the docks have lost their function. Most warehouses and docksides have been demolished and were replaced by skyscrapers. Only on the south side some old warehouses were converted into residential structures.
Since 2012, the Rijnhaven bridge connects the north side (Wilhelminapier) and the south side (Katendrecht) of the former docks. Pedestrians and cyclists can use the new link shortening the distance between the Katendrecht peninsula and the center. The bridge is of a simple design and can be opened to let boat traffic through. The Codrico factory is still operational and boats can dock at its quay, but the overall gentrification of the area has been completed.

A mobile pedestrian bridge. You can walk on it if you go to visit SS Rotterdam coming from Wilhelminaplein metro station.Nothing out of common here...but you have nice views of the area from this bridge.Note,if you're unlucky you can find it raised to allow a ship pass and you'll have to wait a few minutes.

This new bridge was completed in 2012 and connects Katendrecht (which is worth a visit! It houses De Rotterdam Steam Ship, Deliplein (square with some restaurants) and Theater Walhalla) with the Wilhelminapier. You can cross it by foot and by bike. You'll have a nice view on the Rijnhaven and the river Maas as well as some nice views on the architecture on the Wilhelminapier. It's simple in its design, but nevertheless beautiful.
