Some 40 years ago there was a standard joke in Rotterdam: After 7.00 pm, when the cinemas were having their first house, you could fire a cannon over the Coolsingel, the main boulevard in central Rotterdam, without danger of hitting someone. And why was that? Because the center of Rotterdam was dead. With the rebuilding of Roterdam center after the devastation of WW II, the planners had forgotten to build houses for people to live in. Only offices and shops were built, and those establishments were of course deserted and shuttered after 6.00 pm. Things are different now. Many appartment buildings were constructed in Rotterdam center, some modest, but many of striking architecture, in the spirit of "Rotterdam, city of modern architecture". These buildings brought people and life back. The "Red Apple" in the Wijnhaven area is such a striking building. Include this building in your archtecture tour of Rotterdam.

This skyscraper is really unique with it's 40 stories, the bane red Apple takes its origin from the sailboats that brought fresh fruit and vegetable to this very point ( thus Apple point)
Check the facades of this highrise the red patterns are not quite vertical and @axed" one to another , giving an awkward visual effect !!

This amazing Skyscraper can not be missed and can be seen from all over the city, it is as fascinating looking at it from a distance as it is close up and makes other buildings in my opinion look quite dull in comparison, beautiful and striking, magnificent.

If you do any walking in town, you can't miss this. It's a new skyscraper that defies typical symmetrical architecture. Loved looking at it while out.

This colourful red skyscraper was completed in 2009 as part of redevelopment plans for the Wijnhaveneiland in order to improve the ammount of inhabitants of this neighbourhood. This spectacular piece of architecture is a residential tower and is visible from many points of view across the city.

Marking point next to my former apartment. Bit bizar to see your own building and the neighbours as TripAdvisor points of interest, but honestly they are worth the visit.

This is an amazing building. It is one of the tallest in Netherlands and it is one of the most modern. It is actually an exciting project as it contains offices and shops as well as residential apartments in the heart of the city. The red colour is definitely striking and you just cannot miss this building.

The Red Apple is a great example of contemporary architecture, way more beautiful than most buildings on Rotterdam's skyline. As opposing to several of those, it doesn't lack personality and looks very stylish. Cannot be visited though, it's an office building.
