The second bridge next to Erasmus being a showcase of Rotterdam, maybe not so great but a well lit night also makes an impression.

Willemsbrug is another bridge. It's not as famous as the Big Brother (or is it Big Sister?) Erasmus bridge, but it is equally beautiful as well as useful. It is used by cars and pedestrians and it spans the river offering panoramic views as far as one can see. It is terrific! Ant the red colour is quite striking.

I did a lot of walking around which Rotterdam is excellent for. This bridge is a must see. I had my camera with me so took loads of pictures, still getting used to it so I am yet to upload pictures. There's a wonderful ŕiver under the bridge and a very nice path where you could sit or walk taking in the beauty of he area and calmness. This I did on my first walk. On Sunday after breakfast I thought this is the best time to tackle the bridge which wasn't disappointing in the slightest. This is an architectural work of beauty which like most things in Rotterdam is well thought out. I took my time walking and gazing as this gives a lot of photo opportunities. I stumbled on an excellent band in a square outside a supermarket which was a breathe of fresh air as they were great entertainers and you'll notice I enjoy the outdoors and good music. This was a jazz band. On my walk back I saw another bridge ĺift which was super cool. The view from the other side of the bridge as I walked back was well worth it. I would recommend this.

An iconic bridge on the Rotterdam skyline since the early 80's. Bridge lovers simply must cross it either in a vehicle or preferably on foot so you can get some great photos of the city view.

The Red Bridge was constructed in 1981 to replace the old one across the Meuse to link up with Fejenoord district. It was used by pedestrians and vehicles and thus it offered good opportunities for visitors to take good photos while walking on this bridge.

This 1981 red bridge replaced an old 1878 bridge closer to the center (together with the old railway bridge dismantled in the early 1980s). The old bridge was level and thus more convenient to use by cyclists and pedestrians. The new bridge was and is basically meant for cars. In the vision of the urban planners at the time, the city center should first and foremost be accessible by private car. At the time already a contested opinion.

The new bridge has the same name as the old one 'Willemsbrug' Willem being the name of king Willem III formally the Dutch head of state at the time of the first construction. After dark beautifully illuminated.

When we saw this bridge for the second time it was rush hour and obviously it was full of traffic returning from the centre of Rotterdam. Nothing special about it though!

Willemsbrug is the smaller brother of the Erasmus Bridge. So, take a wonderful walk over both bridges, walking along both sides of the Maas river. Noordereiland, in the middle of the river is part of the trip. A unique small part of Rotterdam, fully surounded by water. Good location for dreaming away on a seat along the water....

Not the ugliest of bridges, serves its purpose of connecting the North and the South of Rotterdam in the Eastern part of the center, but nothing special. Also not the most beautiful of bridges.
