I found the lake by accident when running from the nearby BrainPark commercial centre (see Novotel). The Lake is about 5k round its very accessible path network and is very busy at all times making it feel very safe even in the dark! There are a couple of restaurants which I have not tried but they are always busy. The nearby wooded paths also look very well paved and accessible. Its also a NikePlus top route!

The woods and lake of Kralingen (Kralingse Bos, Kralingse Plas) is a big recreational area on the east outskirts of Rotterdam, accessible by public transport (station ‘Kralingse Zoom’). It is also at a walking distance from the Erasmus campus, even quicker on a bike.
Paid parking at the location is possible, but there is free parking just past the snack bar “Het Veulenhof”.
The lake is reasonably large, you try out some rowing or small boat sailing. The boats are for hire.
There are a couple of restaurants around the lake, all of them featuring outdoor seating and lake views. The best times to visit are before the noon or early afternoons. Later in the day it can get busy very busy, particularly during weekends.

If you want a nice, relaxing time for a day, then this might be one of your best bets. There is a lake and water views, there is a large park to run or jog around, to play and to relax and to do lots of other things too. And it's not too far away from the city centre.

Had a wonderful time riding around the park on a bicycle. There's multiple spots for outdoor sports activities, a beach and several restaurants. The park has good infrastructure for sports as well as for leisure.
There's a small zoo on the northern side.

Lake ‘Kralingse Plas’ is located on the northeastern outskirts of Rotterdam. It is surrounded on three sides by what is locally called the Kralingse Bos, but the term 'bos' (means ‘forest’) is a little excessive considering the size. In any other city you would call it a 'park' and that's what it is; beautiful vistas and lawns, where even on sunny days in the weekend you can always find a spot. On the west lakeside is a sandy beach for children, with little further a petting zoo and a ‘climbing forest’ (note the opening times). This is the only bank with a swimming facility. Here you will find a lot of families with children and a reflection of the cities’ population. The banks on the east side are quieter with more younger, student-like visitors.
There are three restaurants at the sides of the lake. Westernmost is ‘The Boat House’ (a little bit ‘up scale’), the northernmost is 'De Schone Lei' (with the most beautiful view of lake and skyline) and in the east next to the mills is ‘De Tuin van de Vier Windstreken’ (with the coziest, but a somewhat disorderly terrace). Furthermore there are some cafetaria’s in the park. It takes about one and a quarter of an hour to walk around the entire lake. Because of the nice views it’s a throughout the year experience to do this (well, except for rainy days).
It’s a pity that public transport is not nearby. To the western part of the lake take bus 38 (exit stop ‘Nieuw Crooswijkse weg’) and for the eastern part take the metro lines (A, B or C,) exit at ‘Gerdesiaweg’ and than it’s a short pleasant walk through a green area with beautiful antebellum homes. Through the forest leads a road, so you can get everywhere by car too. On busy days however, parking is difficult near popular spots. There are many cycle paths around the lake and leading to it. So the best way to go there is by bike.

This is a very nice lake near Rotterdam. The sunset is beautiful and the nature is peaceful. The neighbourhood is worth a visit as well.

Come here on a sunny day with friends and family. There is plenty space to chill, to barbecue, to bike around, to read under the sun or shade. There are a few children playgrounds too. You can bring your own food or eat at restaurants inside the park.
