Witte de With is a public institution in the field of contemporary art and its related discourses. Critical reflection on timely issues through curated exhibitions, theoretical and educational programs and a bold publishing arm is core to its mission. Established in 1990 and with Rotterdam as its homebase, Witte de With acts as a dedicated platform for emerging and established artists, curators, and writers from across the globe. Since 1990, Witte de With has presented exhibitions by more than 300 artists, and numerous platforms with international and nation-wide partners to critical acclaim, reaching over 20,000 visitors annually. The exhibitions of artists such as Daniel Buren, Tacita Dean, Isa Genzken, David Goldblatt, Dan Graham, Atelier van Lieshout, Aernout Mik, Haim Steinbach, Luc Tuymans, Jesper Just, Geoffrey Farmer and Ian Wallace reflect the huge diversity of ideas and forms in contemporary art. The focus is on unconventional, critical artistic practices such as recently those of Angela Bulloch, Billy Apple(R), Liam Gillick as well as those of Ulrike Ottinger, John Baldessari, Antoní Muntadas, Rita McBride, Brian Jungen, Annette Kelm, Margaret Salmon, Tris Vonna-Michell, Sarah Lucas, Douglas Gordon and Yto Barrada.

Witte de With has been a fixed value in the Dutch contemporary art scene for ages. For a while they seemed to specialize in mostly highly conceptual art exhibitions - and I for one lost interest in their programme - but recently they seem to programme a bit more accessable without being, well, you know, lame. With two exhibition floors... More

For me Witte de with Center for Contemporary Art, is a highlight of Rotterdam and a clear example of why art in Holland is done so well. I really liked the vast range of contemporary art, there is some great visually centric art which when compared to the classical art at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is just as fun to... More

This gallery is composed of huge rooms, almost empty, on 3 stories. On ground floor we almost had a mystical experience watching the production of Dutch contemporary artists.... Halfway between performance and weird accumulation of objects..... Don't go if you are not in the best mood ever because you risk a serious break down!!! Really it dies not transmit faith... More

A disappointing place to explore. Luckily, we went in with our Museumkaart (card for Dutch museums) and didn't have to pay to enter, otherwise I would have been even more disappointed. The venue includes lots of large open spaces, but the artwork filling the spaces was experimental and extremely unusual. It took about 15 minutes to walk around. The photography... More

I had a fantastic visit to the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art. The space itself is huge and spread out, and at this particular time there were two pretty amazing exhibitions that consumed me for about 3 hours. Perhaps it was the time of day (midday on a Saturday) but there were very few other visitors there to... More

We'd decided to go an all-out arty weekend, and it happened to be the 'Museumnacht' night when we there too (weekend of 5th March), but after all the amazing art and exhibitions we'd seen at the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen and the Kunsthal, as well as numerous little galleries during the night (which were free), the Witte de With (which...
