We were here many years ago to see the musical Cats. So it was nice to come back here this evening for the musical Mamma Mia! and especially during this festive season. Having seen Mamma Mia! before in Utrecht and London, this new dutch version impressed us with a somewhat younger and more energetic cast than in the other versions we have seen earlier. The theatre itself with about 2,000 seats still looks rather well-maintained after all these years. Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year 2024 to all of you!!!🎅🎅🎅

Went to this theater for the first time yesterday for Peter Pannenkoek. Peter was great again, but in the theater it was crammed again. Just like in an airplane, as many people as possible must be on it. The legroom is terribly tight and therefore you don't sit comfortably. That is ashame. Parking was also a disaster. Luckily we had made a reservation so that was fine, but what a chaos to finally get there. Indeed a drink afterwards that you have to pick up upstairs, but I will not book here again myself.

Reserved for the performance.
Friendly well dressed staff.
Finding the reserved place was no problem with correctly placed signage.
Friendly staff at the bars.
Sanitary facilities need some attention. Due to the crowds, there was some chaos and dirt.

We were at a performance of André van Duin.
Because TV recordings were made, we had the misfortune of looking at a large standing microphone that obstructed our view of the middle of the stage.
And that's where the artists performed.
Very annoying.
Tickets were also quite expensive; almost 70 euros each.
I encountered little understanding at the box office of the Luxor theater.
This performance was outsourced so they were not responsible....
Don't feel taken seriously and am very disappointed.

People come to relax. The costumes were beautiful, the dancers excellent, the orchestra played the stars of heaven, the interplay between digital backdrop and stage was breathtaking and fantastically conceived. It was a very nice show at times. However, the propaganda for the Falun gong sect ran like a thread through it and this show was all about the glorification of this sect, a sect that moved to NY because these dancers should never be allowed to express themselves in China. The audience was lectured that we will go to hell if we don't go back to the old norms and values. Our Creator is nearer and the theory of evolution is of the devil?! We are all reincarnated to shelter on earth as refuges. Oeff really too heavy and it is not announced that the audience would end up in such a show. Reminded us of the early Moon sect. This really failed the dancers and the orchestra. A mix of ballet and geisha-like atmospheres and beautiful music. This show would have been absolutely outstanding without 2 speaker interruptions imposing on the audience, and the narrative dance chapters would have been kept free of politics and religion.

Nieuwe Luxor Theater is a modern theater on Wilhelminaplein, right by the southern foot of the Erasmus bridge - the exact address is Posthumalaan 1. It was designed by the Australian architect Peter Wilson and opened in 2001. The theater seats 1500 people in a modern type of auditorium, so that almost all seats (I believe) have a good view of the scene. The building is well worth a visit on its own, with a fine use of volume, colours (a lot of red) and light, including a large balcony towards the river. It also has a good restaurant, Leipzig, and a bar. The theater offers a mix of all genres - opera, classical music, musicals, popular concerts and probably much more.
I went to see Shrek the musical, which I thought was good entertainment, although I do not understand much of the Dutch language, and I must confess that Dutch does not seem to be the best language for singing (sorry about this - it is the preponderance of velar fricatives...). The tickets for this musical cost up to EUR 55 in the stalls, which I thought was reasonable for such a large production. It is possible to buy tickets on the web from the website, and one can in fact select the exact seats (as in many other theaters nowadays). VISA worked fine for me. However, I found the process a little cumbersome. One has to register as a customer in order to buy tickets (if only for one single performance), and this process takes some time, including verification of password etc. Each step took up to five minutes, so expect to spend almost 30 minutes on the whole procedure. In the end, I received a receipt, which I printed and exchanged for the actual tickets at the theater half an hour before the performance. If you book tickets well in advance, you may receive them in the mail.
For the performance I attended, there were many vacant seats, so I suppose it is possible to buy tickets on the same day to many performances. In any case, I highly recommend a visit to Nieuwe Luxor Theater. Since there is a new Luxor theater, there is also an old one, Oude Luxor Theater. It was opened as a cinema in 1917, and has since been used for many types of performances, and still is. This is located in Kruiskade.

We went to see the new show of Dutch TV personality Arjen Lubach. The show was extremely funny, he has so much talent for comedy with a sharp eye for politics and society. But furthermore, it was also very personal, as he displayed much more about his private life then on TV. The Nieuwe Luxor building was a landmark for him, such a big audience. As for the building: it is a beautiful new theater, with a nice view on the Erasmus Bridge

We attended a concert in Nieuwe Luxor Theater. Architectural design of the building itself is impressive and also very classy inside. Almost all the chairs have a good view of the stage. Very kind and helpful staff. We enjoyed to have our drinks at the foyer with the amazing view of Erasmus Bridge.
