Great for a day out

The museum has bits from pretty much every European civilization, it is interesting to visit. The Egyptian temple is an unexpected pleasant surprise

One of the best ancient history museums I've visited. Not as huge as the Met in NYC but impressive none the less. Great exhibits and some very unique artifacts. I especially enjoyed the explanation of the Dark Ages in the Netherlands.

Real treasures from antic times. Mummies, sarcophagi and even a small temple from Egypt. Vases and statues from Greece and Rome. Many other artefacts from the Middle East. Too much to all sum up. The top floor has a very well designed exposition about the archaeology from The Netherlands with some interactive elements for kids.

The RMO is one of the better museums in Leiden, with a rich collection of Greek and Roman artefacts and usually an exhibit showcasing different eras from different countries. If you're lucky they also showcase movies every so often. If you are visiting the Netherlands and plan to see a lot of museums, I would recommend the museumpaas that is... More

This museum has one of the best Egyptian collections, well laid out and many beautiful artefacts including the Temple of Taffher. There are many mummies, sarcophagi and stela. A well spent 2-3 hours. The building itself is interesting architecturally.

Not just another antiquities museum, this one was so fascinating and so full of exciting ancient artifacts that it "ruined" our schedule for the day and we spent much longer there than anticipated. And loved every minute of it. The Egyptian collection is not only extensive but wonderfully explained and displayed. Currently there is also an excellent exhibition over two... More

I was glad I had purchased tickets ahead of time because as the morning wore on it got more and more crowded and the line for tickets got longer. I was glad we had downloaded the museum app so we could do the Family Quest (they have free wifi). That was a lot of fun and took us past many... More

The permanent exposition, especially the Egyptian and Greek parts, are stunning. Other parts, like the Roman, Etruscan, Middle Eastern and Prehistoric parts are smaller but still beautiful. Temporary exhibitions are nice but small, not living up to the hype.

Came with three small boys and did the Romans Activity Trail (in Dutch). Visited the Ice Age exhibit again, also fun. Do go early, we're always outside at opening time, and the museum is still quiet enough to really enjoy everything. Enjoyed a coffee while the children were entertained by the museum staff, making an Ice Age drawing.
