Interesting working windmill right in town

This working windmill turns millstones to grind flour. Very cool seeing the whole thing turning. Go early because they close about 4PM. It's not open every day.

It's a lovely canal side walk through venerable old trees to arrive at this lovely old mill. Although no longer producing flour, the sails still turn and the original working parts are on display up in the gallery floor, accessed by a wooden ladder with good hand holds on the stair treads. An elxerly gentilmanlooks after the mill and there... More

There are only two days in the year that this 19 century windmill is opened to public, on windmill day and monument day and we where so lucky it was monument day on the weekend of our visit. The care taker took us to explain us the very complex functioning of the windmill through 5 floors of vertical steps. Great

We rode our bicycles into Gouda and stopped at this working mill. There is a small entrance fee charged to enter the mill. An on-site shop sells its produce. Interesting and worth a visit.

We love visiting mills, especially working ones where you can buy flour, semolina, etc. In the UK they are invariably out-of-town so you can imagine our surprise to find two in the city! It's possible to enter the mill (€1.50 at the time of writing) and climb to the platform that runs around the outside. The mill is in good... More

My five year old son and I have been reading a book called "de molen" about a family of millers at the Roode Leuuw Molen. He decided that we should visit the mill, meet the little boy, and see if they would let us climb on the “wieken” (blades of the windmill) like the boy did in the book. This... More
