OK - it is put on once a week (Thursdays in season) for the tourists but it is colourful, atmospheric and good fun in a great location. If combined with a visit to the old town area of Gouda and coffee or a meal at one of the cafes in the square where it is held, I think well worth... More

The market of Gouda is a hustle and bustle of yellow round things (wheels of cheese) on most Thursday mornings/beginning afternoons) from April through August. Is it real? No, cheese is not traded like this anymore. Nowhere. Is it a bit of fun to learn about how things used to be: yes! No harm in seeing this spectacle if you... More

Great cheese market - after all this is Gouda! Only takes place on Thursday mornings so make sure you come early. Cheese tasting offered during the "auction". For a great view go into the Stadhuis next to the market and take your photos from the veranda overlooking the market.

Would you like to weigh yourself on an old cheese scale? A bored woman in costume is paid to stand there while you consider your options. Would you like to see some large cheeses and a horse and carriage? You would? Then you must be a tourist. Go. Town square is pretty, the fair is decent. We paid a lot... More

This old fashioned cheese market is open on Thursday mornings. You can see huge wheels of yellow cheese displayed on the cobblestones of the old market square, in picturesque surroundings surrounded by old stone buildings. There will be some townsfolk in traditional costumes, some cheese being weighed, and a horse and cart. There are some nice cafes where you can... More

This is a nice market place to visit. On the day we were there there was a flea market. I think it was the last one of the season There are also lots of restaurants in the square

This was a cheesy tourist show that is free and surrounded by Markt with decent prices. It could be interesting but by the time the tour buses arrive, you know the scene you have found. The commentary was minimal and did not describe what the process represented. We all know it is a set up to get you to spend... More

The cheese market is something you can't miss in Gouda. You have two chances to see it, on Thursday and Saturday. Some of the reviewers only mention the Thursday market, but the locals, obviously, need the weekend to shop. If you are from the US, this is a fascinating example of small-town enterprise. Bear in mind that the Dutch can... More

This is Gouda at her best, throwing cheeses and all. You can taste and buy cheese, visit the 'Goudse Waag' and the tiny museum or just take pictures in the giant clogs behind the Waag. Just know that the cheese market is every Thursday morning until 13.00h from April until August.

Come to Gouda on a Thursday morning to see a mock-up of the cheese market. As well as a real market there are cheese sellers in traditional costume including clogs. There are lots of photo opportunities including holding a cheese, posing with cheese sellers and pretty Dutch girls! It is obviously set up for children but worth seeing in a... More
