Walked past this City Hall building while touring Dordrecht. The building is apparently still very popular for weddings and other ceremonies. It has had some renovations.
It sits on a plaza next to a canal with boat traffic and steps leading to the canal. Across is a big monument to the DeWitt Brothers and along the canal is a recent painting of Dutchmen on the side of a building.

Came back after 4 years, and now had time to follow my own advice left here on TripAdvisor and did go inside this time.
I was right! It's worth it!
Visit nicely restored rooms, a large hall where local and regional meetings are still held - with modern equipment, but the historic feeling all around it.
And the highlight of the tour is the attic. A nice photograph display, and you can visit the cell of the old jail - all of that up in the very large attic. My 6 year old daughter loved everything and had a lot of questions too!
There are some models that show how the building was a few centuries ago.
All free of charge, of course!

Dordrecht's Stadhuis (Town Hall) was built in the 14th century as a cloth hall, rebuilt in 1544 and given a fashionable neoclassic facade in 1635-43. The 17th century look of the building was preserved during several restorations, but in 1835 a wooden tower was added to the top of the building. The metal lions that sit either side of the steps were made in 1841. It is a very attractive building decorated in neoclassic style and is a landmark worth stopping and taking a look and a photo of during any walk around the attractive old town area of Dordrecht.

Recently I visited the city of Dordrecht in the Netherlands.

Dordrecht is one of the oldest cities in the country and well worth visiting. There is the new part of the city and the old part which has been skillfully restored. They now hold little antique and gift shops, restaurants and local pubs.
The old harbours of the city with the older boats, some of them still running on steam are a beautiful site to watch. Visit the Dordse Kerk and climb up the 364 steps to get a wonderful view of the city. Walk along the harbours or Buitenwalen vest to het Groot Hoofds Poort which is an old city gate that provided entry to the city. There is also het Maartens Gat where old storage places are now converted to apartments for the locals. The outside of these building are beautifully restored as well. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday visit the local markets with their beautiful flower and cheese stands. You can eat fresh fish such as Herring. Not to forget Poffertjes at Visser Poffertjes in the Spuistraat.

Monumental building. City Hall in past and very popular place for wedding ceremony. Not open for visit. You can see this building just outside.
You will find it very easy in any cases, because it located near the Grote Kerk and water canal where you can take a canal trip.

This is a magnificent building - one of several in this quaint old historical town of Dordrecht.
In fact the square around the Stafhuis is full of interesting old buildings, each with some historical importance. The nearby canal offers an opportunity but to stand, do nothing and just watch life going by both in the square, on the canal itself and on the steps of the Stadhuis.
A great building.

This building is a work of art. Nothing more and nothing less. It looks great on the outside, but even better on the inside. A must see when you are visiting Dordrecht.

It is a pity that this beautiful building isn't open to the general public and visitors from abroad more often than once a month. You can of course get married here, but that is a bit of a tour de force if you are just trying to get a glimpse of the interior.
