It was a nice experience to visit the Saturday Flea market in Markt Delft. Crowded but still fine as there were many things to see and taste. It represented the local culture. The most common stalls were selling cheese, wafer and tulip seeds. We were lucky to have our visit on Saturday as we were not aware there was such a flea market on Saturday before we came. Highly recommend place in Delft.

To our surprise a big part of the area around Markt were transformned into an open air market on saturday. Small stalls were put up and it went on and on. We didn't cover it all. Here you will find many interesting buys if your into antiques or the more odd stuff. For those going tile-hunting for some delft blue tiles there might very well be a good buy here if you know what to look for. Or maybe you're into old books, toys or other small things that will put your memory back a few years.

In 2013 my husband and I visited the Delft flea and antique market. It was wonderful; full of antique dolls, Delft ware, tiles, gramophones, knick knacks etc.. Fun to browse.
I went again this year but on a Thursday which is supposed to also be antique/flea market day and was told that they stopped the Thursday market a few years ago.

This is a pretty standard Dutch market. However, the fact it is in Delft makes it worth seeing. The stalls run along canals. They have everything from clothes to souvenirs to cheese. There was also a stand for frites (french fries) and another one with fresh made stroopwafels (two thin waffle wafers, with syrup in between). Both well worth the stop, and very Dutch.
The market is a short walk from the central train station, as well as close to the main square, and the old and new churches, which are also worth a visit.

Just to visit Delft market place is an experience to enjoy just a vast array of shops, restaurants and drinking spots but on a Saturday there is the Flea Market as an added attraction. The Netherlanders are persons for having some interesting articles from yesteryear and there is something for everyone. If not you may find things that you have never seen before and the very friendly marketeers will be pleased to explain, but do bargain!!!

My boyfriend and I went to Delft as a day trip from Amsterdam. We were possibly the youngest people there as it did seem to attract a lot of the older generation, perhaps because it's famous for its pottery! But what made Delft a hidden gem for us was the flea market. Rows and rows of stalls line the canals selling an array of weird and wonderful objects as you can read in my blog post below.

As with most Flea Markets, it value mostly depends on the kinds of things you are seeking. It goes much of the length of the main canal in Delft. Those looking for small trinkets for gifts might find them here. Many items are reproductions. You should probably have explored the three Delft pottery shops before buying pottery so you know the real marks from mass produced items. Those pottery retail stores are near the New Church and City Hall.

Not worth going out of your way to visit. They sell a lot of cheese, fish, fruit and mediocre pastries.

Yes, some schlock, but it was still interesting to see Dutch schlock. Some wonderful African art, many antiques and vintage what not, wonder original wearable art, lots of Delft (and imitation Delft), jewelry - old and new. Move along and find the farmers market a block or two away. Wonderful flowers, cheese, meats, etc.

All I know is that the Saturday antique market is an all day affair. As I recall it opens at 10 and closes in the late afternoon. If it's raining, I think things close up earlier.
It you are in the area on a Thursday, it's worth going to Gouda, not far away in the early morning (9 o'clock on, I think until 11or a bit later). They set up in the town square with huge wheels of Gouda cheese and there is a bidding war. They do something like whistle to bid.

Is it close to the train station? And is it an easy day trip from Amsterdam? Thank you?

Delft is approximately 1 hour by train from Amsterdam. The flea market is not close to the station. You would need a bus or taxi to get there. Best to stay overnight to visit this lovely Dutch city.
