The Vermeer Centrum Delft offers the visitor a discovery tour through the life, works and town of the 17th century master of light: Johannes Vermeer. The section 'Vermeer's world' shows you 17th century Delft. Wander through the famous 'View of Delft' and meet Vermeer's environment: his clients, his family and his rich mother-in-law. In Vermeer's world there are copies of all his paintings in their original size, an entire own world in his 37 works. Vermeer's atelier is dedicated to Vermeer's working methods. Discover how Vermeer mastered light in the light studio. Experiment with the camera obscura and play with colour, hidden views and perspective. And literally step into one of Vermeer's paintings. Many of the Delft painter Johannes Vermeer's paintings are about love. Sometimes it is obvious, but other times he subtly refers to it by painting certain objects or details. These objects and details can be seen in the exhibition 'Vermeer's love messages'. Learn to recognise the symbols in Vermeer's paintings. Besides a visit to the centrum, Vermeer can also be discovered on foot. An individual walk has been set out along all the highlights in Vermeer's life. The Vermeer Combiticket gives you access to all the locations.

This is a small museum which beautifully captures the essence of Vermeer's art. There is an excellent display of Vermeer's approach to light in his art. It is a 1 - 2 hour visit and then you can have coffee and cake in the little coffeeshop after you bought a few souveniers in the museum shop.

I'm obsessed with Vermeer so this was a must see on our trip. It was fascinating to be in the same place that Vermeer would spend time and probably gathered inspiration. Since there are so few Vermeer originals available it's no surprise that there are none here though it would have bee nice to see one. I enjoyed seeing how... More

It's a nice museum, well organized, but it has not original paintings of Vermeer. To see them you need instead to visit the museum in Den Haag and Amsterdam.

Wonderful little museum dedicated to Johannes Vermeer. When I arrived, I knew little about Vermeer and when I left, I felt like I knew a lot. I don’t know of any other museum that shows off all the works of a single artist. Obviously, they can do this here by displaying reproductions rather than original works but it really doesn’t... The Vermeer center is all about the works that Vermeer has painted in his life ( yes they chronically show all his works in print). A not that very instructive video functions as an introduction to the lifeline of Vermeer in Delft along which all his paintings are in actual size presented in the context of where he grew up... Nice visit to this museum to see the history of Vermeer's work. I found it amusing that some tourists actually thought the photographs of the paintings were originals. Highly interesting to me was the video via the Rijksmuseum restorer who had recently restored one Vermeer's works. Be sure to pose for a picture as "The Lady writing a letter".

Great self guided tour in English. It gave a good insight into Vermeer's life and how he created his artwork. Very interesting and informative. Overall very good experience.
