It is really the gem of the old city of Middelburg, every better than the main church (which is also nice). On Saturdays there is a big flea market in the square.

It completed in 1458 and is decorated with gothic windows, red/white shutters, small turrets and 25 statues of the Zeeland's counts and countesses of the time. The interior burnt down completely during WWII leaving only the exterior standing. The large restoration lasted until the late 20th century. You cannot miss it if you're in Middleburg. It is huge!

The old townhall of Middelburg bears great combination of history and beauty. The old, new and very new style together makes it a nice monument that can't be missed if staying around. There are quite a lot of different art forms, beautiful tapestries, gorgeous furniture and certainly interesting history of the hall and the town that made our visit memorable.

This is one of those buildings that provides a different perspective from nearly every angle. It's truly magnificent. I was particularly intrigued by the scores of little dormer-like structures that protrude from the entire roof surface. Each is adorned with its own little spire. I have to marvel at the design and construction involved in such a structure. Also unique... More

The town hall in Middelburg takes my breath away every time I see it. It's such a beautiful building, with such attention to detail and what I would call classic Dutch architecture. I have never done a tour of the inside, but I love to look at this building from the outside. If you are in the area, it is... More

Midelburg was one of our River Cruise stops. We had already visited Amsterdam, Hoorn and Arnhem. We decided to hire a taxi to cover as much area of Midelburg as possible. Nothing much to see or account for and we could hardly feel it's ancient past.....until we came upon the previous City Town Hall. A magnificent building that stands prominently... More

I was able to spend several days in the town hall for the Human Rights Education conference in December. What an amazingly beautiful building! Nearby are the old medieval cloisters as well, as well as a Middelburg museum. Take some time to see this beautiful, beautiful historical landmark.

This building is an absolute must to see and visit. It is for sure one of the most beautiful buildings in the whole of The Netherlands.
