I am quite horrified after reading some of the reviews above! we arrived to this place with no expectations! we were a family of 5 with 2 children, the so called 'zoo' is actually a house a with 3 levels, to make long story short: we paid €44.50, visited on a Tuesday right when the zoo just opened at 13:00h. the zoo claim that they house rescued animals that other wise will be left to die! the animals are from exotic locations such as South East Asia or South America....the zoo has a bad odour, hardly ventilated, many of the reptiles are held in an underground cellar like place with no natural light or air, the place is not well maintained, old and dirty, almost all the plants and the environment is made of plastic and fake plants, the enclosures feels filthy and old and stinky, the so called cafeteria is just an awful space with old plastic furniture, the Galapagos turtles are held in a very miserable underground cellar with absolutely no access to any natural light or air!....we spent 50 minutes.....awful place, not worth a visit and we felt cheated or actually ripped off. Sad animals held in sad miserable conditions!

This was an unexpected treat. The zoo has hundreds of rescued reptiles from all over the world. The volunteers there were extremely interesting and knowlegeable and were eager to answer our questions. We found the visit absolutely fascinating and learned a lot. It was good to see that these reptiles, which had been previously mistreated, are now well looked after.

This zoo strated as a shelter for resqued reptiles and has grown to a complete zoo. You can see a variety of reptiles, insects and butterflies.

Didn't know what to expect before we visited. The outside of the building is quite deceiving. Looks pretty small, but it really isn't. The displays wind their way round this sprawling building with a truly impressive collection of rescued reptiles that either cannot be released or are staying there until they can be released. The Reticulated Python one of the worlds biggest snakes was worth the entry fee alone. Other snakes both large and small, Lizards, tortoises, spiders, scorpions and a wide range of other insects and reptiles are all there to see in large and spacious enclosures. Interesting, informative and entertaining.

We visited the iguana sanctuary this week as we spent the day un vlissingen. it is located in the center, close to the beach and several bars and restaurants, very easy to find. the entrance fee is 8,50 per adult but it is worth it!they have several different types of lizzards and iguanas as well as different species of turtles and tortoises, spiders ,crocodiles and huge snakes! It is well maintained and animals seem well treated.it took us about 1 hr for the visit and we had a brilliant time!

Good:
- lots for different kind of reptile species.
- staff uses animals that are either “injured” or “illegally transported”, and are brought here for recovery and safe homing.
Improvement:
- non child friendly as in pram
- lots of indoor narrow and steep stairs. But that is of the construction of the building.

This is a great place, a charity and reptile sanctuary for I believe mainly illegal pets or badly treated pets that they have saved. Plenty of different species, you could spend a good few hours walking around. There was a lovely gentleman, who I didn’t realise was the owner until afterwards who talked me through some of the history and how the ‘zoo’ was set up. He also said that they do send the reptiles back to their natural environment which is obviously great, just expensive for them. This is a must go to!!

Large collection of interesting animals. Some of them very up close. A big plus is that they rescue the reptiles from illegal ownership or the streets.

If you’re curious about amphibians, reptiles and arthropods than this zoo is the place one should visit. Children love it! Although it looks small from the outside, it’s actually Europe’s largest, roofed reptile zoo.
It houses a nice variety of species (about 500). There are very old animals, but there’s also a baby-room in which eggs are hatched and one can see very young animals. And they differ in size as well, some are a couple of inches, the largest is a 7-metre-long python.
Some animals seem quite “shy” so you really have to try and find them. They are all behind glass, so it’s safe.
The building itself has a lot of charm, it’s simple but functional. And it’s got an interesting history (just ask one of the staff).
If you’re by car, the only downside is that one shouldn’t park the car in front of the zoo, as one is only allowed to park for 1 hour, while the visit will certainly last a somewhat longer.
