We went for a Caravaggio and “Caravaggisti”. I’ve to admit it was not so bad, even I had bigger expectations. What really hurt was the behavior of some visitors, but does not depends from the museum. Less visitors per time slot could help to fully enjoy the atmosphere

The Caravaggio special exhibition in the Centraal Museum is more about his European followers, such as Dirk van Baburen and Gerard van Honthorst, than about the master himself. But there are two genuine Caravaggio's on display - Hieronymus, and Medusa (painted on a shield, quite special). Overall quite some paintings nicely arranged following biblical themes. The lighting is not fully optimal in my humble opinion, too much glare on the paintings. But still quite worthwhile. It pays off to arrive at the end of your designated slot, after about 45 minutes the crowds start to dilute.

We have been to this museum three times over the years and it’s always enjoyable. Their constant collection is great and is ever changing. They have the beloved artist and writer Dick Bruna’s Studio which I love to see. The temporary exhibits are amazing. Today we were able to see art from South Africa and other contemporary pieces. Great mix of new and old art.
Beautiful grounds. Great cafe.
A must see.

I went into museum towards the bag drop off and was stopped by a staff. She blocked me with her body and right away accused me of "barging in". There was no clear signage of which is ticket area and which is not. Of course her job was to monitor tickets but to go immediately accuse a visiter was extremely impolite.
I have a museumkaart but that left such a sour taste in my mouth I didn't enter into the museum. (Visit Saturday Sept 22,2018)

I was wondering whether to leave a review as we didn't actually visit here. After reading reviews, we bought a ticket for the reitveld Schroeder house believing that it would include the entrance fee to the Centraal museum as well. However, when we arrived at the Centraal, we were told that it would be another €13.50 meaning that the entrance fees for both attractions would be €30!
The website is misleading and it is such a shame

I would personally challenge the state of mental health of the most of the "artists" represented in this museum. In my personal opinion this is wasting of money and time.

Oh my - what a horrible experience. Could not get into the special exhibition but had to pay the same price anyway! the exhibits are in the most awful mixed-up order. They say it is to make you look at things differently - no, it just makes it a frustrating experience. Unless you are especially interested in the artists whose work they display, miss this one. There was no feedback sheet so I was not allowed to give my views to the museum directly.

Museum was very local, and focuses on local artists such as Rietveld. Also has a good balance of all Dutch Artists. Exhibits were very well designed and thought out. We had lunch in the Cafe before entering the museum (very good), and coffee and dessert after our museum visit.

It's an big and interesting museum.
Had to put my bag in a locker because it was to big.
Staff could have been a bit more inviting.
The exhibitis were interesting but didn't really make sense when put together.
Also the museum cafe was really noisy and crowded.
We didn't stay for to long.
It all felt a bit chaotic

I am an artist and my husband is a scientist so we check to see what museums hold when we travel. Central Museum had something for both of us but could have been even better. We both wanted to see the 1000 year old boat and it was amazing and beautiful in it’s construction. It would have been helpful to see illustrations of how it was propelled. Was it polled or pulled by mules? Was it oared? Maybe no one knows but we did wonder.
I enjoyed the DeStill furniture and think it is the best collection I have seen. We visited the house a few days earlier and it was nice to see the models and furniture. They were beautifully displayed and I loved the opportunity to sit in a zig zag chair but since I don’t speak Dutch I could not understand the dialogue. I was glad we had viewed the house first so we could put the furniture in context.
The museum itself is in a beautiful building and I am glad to see addaptive reuse but even with a map this is a hard building to work through. We searched and searched for the furniture but finally found it. The many levels of the building would be difficult for a handicapped person.
Lastly we viewed the collection of art that was gathered by the brother and sister. It struck me as interesting as the were contemporary to the Knoller Mueller Collection yet they clearly did not have the same visual instincts was the Knoller Muellers. They did collect two small Van Gogh, which I was disappointed not to see. If something is on tour, it should be mentioned. A little tweaking could make this museum better for the visitors. I suspect Miffy is their main income.
