History is still allive in Amersfoort when you walk the 'Plantsoen': a walk just outside along the former city walls. See the Kamper Binnenpoort, the Koppelpoort (really world famous) and i.e. the Moniickendam. Just inside the walls you'll find Muurhuizen: houses build in and as a part of the wall. You should really visit this city and a bright Sunday... More

As with many of the Dutch cities, the walls are always interesting, and the gates in particular are worth taking a look at. Always good for photo's. And they are free!

The city gates are more than just gateways to this stunning town but a great place to start. A look back into times past in this former fortified town but as you wander beyond the inner canals , old streets ,quaint shops and more eateries, cafes and bars than you can poke a stick at.....just fabulous......spend time here...you won't regret... We were only here a couple of hours for a lunch but that short time makes us want to come back for a longer stay next time. Beautiful city.

The City Gates allow you to pass through the old wall and reach the amazing old city center which is full of nice restaurants, shops and coquette squares.

You might think, ah, Amersfoort, will just be another city with shopping streets, restaurants, churches, .... but you are clearly mistaken then. The city of Amersfoort breathes historic character that you might not have guessed by just looking at its name or place on the Dutch map. If you enjoy seeing parallels between the old and the new, you will... More

While you're shopping in Amersfoort, you can easily visit the city gates. You can walk around it. It's not far and if you ask someone where it is, almost everyone can help you point a direction where to go.

It is a nice historical landmark in the city of Amersfoort, well kept and very photo-proof. It doesn't take much of your time though. Beter step on a boat to take a tour.

Amersfoort is my home town, but despite living abroad I love going there and indulge in the wonderful atmosphere of the old city centre with its beautiful buildings and plenty of shops but even more bars and restaurants
