this is the place where Amersfoort originated, some 800 years ago.
A place for trade and transport. and now a beautiful, peaceful and harmonious place. Nothing spectacular, but very atmospheric. many interesting and beautiful places within walking distances. same for pubs and coffee shops. Follow thw water to the Kleine Spui en Grote Spui and reach the new city...

I lived for awhile at one of the canals in Amersfoort so my view might sounds biased but the truth is, the Oude Haven and the inner city of Amersfoort have a lot of atmosphere. Amersfoort might not be on everyone's list to visit but I can assure you it's worth the few days spending here and wandering through the old city center, the Oude haven, the canals etc. Things have changed over the decades, of course, but there's still in 2016 a lot of the old atmosphere to be found.

The old port and connecting waterways of the city are amazing! They are in great shape and show you a piece of history in a most beautiful way. Fun thing is that there are many bridges across the water, most very narrow and only for pedestrians.
Stroll around at leisure, in and out of the historic center, and enjoy all the buildings, sights and the green areas. Of course, best enjoyed on a sunny day.
There are also many cafés, restaurants and outside terraces.

Old ports and canals are nothing peculiar in medieval Dutch cities. This one in Amersfoort, however, sticks out as it is not only large in size, but its entry is also fortified by city gates in the city wall that bridge the port, thereby protecting the city from unwanted access.

Amersfoort was one of our favorite towns to visit in the Netherlands and the Oude Haven area was so lovely. While it may not be the harbor it was in it's heyday, the canals are still quite beautiful and it is a very peaceful area of the town of Amersfoort to enjoy. Highly recommend

Good food for reasonable price - nice selection of beers too. Recieved a great service on a regular weekday, fast delivery of food and a well visited place by the locals - judging from the other guests.

The name 'Oude Haven' (Dutch for old harbour) is misleading in the sense of today. This is not a harbour anymore. It is a very nice old piece of Amersfoort though and good for picturesque views.

Canals ,Parks,Museums and wonderful innercity built in the year 1200 .That is Amersfoort the most beautiful city in The Netherlands.Very nice for a couple of weeks visiting because: location in the middle of Holland is very comfortable and has a choice of reasonable priced hotels.A lot of entertainment for young and older people
