Worth a visit
Feb 2020
We enjoyed the exhition on Afro-American Art, which runs this winter in KAdE. It gives a good insight in the development of black art in the USA during the last century. There is still room for more, the museum seems to be developed a bit more itself in the future. The Museumjaarkaart is valid, the Rembrandt kaart not, (strange enough...)

Rather good

Informative and interesting Art Museum with an awful lot to see. Nice little cafe that one can enter without charge. Entrance to the museum a reasonable Euro 12.50.

Great exhibition

We visited the Maestro Van Wittel" exhibition at the Kunsthal KAdE in Amersfoort, the town where Caspar van Wittel (or Gaspare Vanvitelli as he was called in Italy) was born in 1653, and never returned until now. His beautiful baroque paintings of Italian cities such as Rome, Naples, Florence and Venice were shown alongside contemporary photographs by Hans Wilschut. A wonderful idea, allowing the visitor to compare how these cities have changed, or remained virtually the same, over the centuries. A real must-see.

Not having a permanent collection permits the museum to be even more creative. I think they succeeded. Originally, we wanted visited the Christmas market at Eemplein, where you will find the usual shops and a cinema, 10 minutes walk from the station. The Christmas market turned out to be not big enough to justify a visit from out-of-towners. Fortunately we saw the museum! The museum itself is an exciting building with lots of spaces and corridors. Don’t forget to go to the library next door, which is part of the whole complex! Every 3-4 months the exhibition changes. Please Kade, realise that you have enough to offer to international art lovers! English information would be much appreciated.

Modern art within beautiful architecture
Aug 2017 • Solo
The museum hosts decent exhibitions, such as now a large retrospective of De Stijl, with some works of Mondriaan, many more from Van Doesburg, etc. This exhibition was widely advertized, but still it was extremely quiet in the museum. Even after moving to a new and rather spectacular building in the middle of the city, it still fails to attract more visitors, and therefore it lacks a good atmosphere. Maybe contrary to other people, I like art watching together with a crowd of other art-lovers, seeing what they wear, how they talk about the art, etc. etc. This museum deserves more of an audience, the staff of volunteers is very helpful and Amersfoort can do with a meeting spot for everybody among the art.

Good theme and execution, not for everyone, though.

'The art of the making' is the current theme of this art museum. Through paintings and installations, the process of creating art is illustrated. The theme is interesting and some of the execution is good as well. We were lucky to visit when they were filming for a TV show, so got to see some bonus art as well.

Nice modern art gallery

Usually they have several exhibitions going on at the same time. There is no permanent exhibition. They are changing all the time. I have been to couple of very good exhibitions there.

eclectic art museum with hits and misses
Oct 2016 • Couples
The average score does not do justice to some of the better pieces of art in the museum. Really colorful or realistic. But that is drawn down by the misses in the lower level when we were there. Weird sculptures with pieces of fruit built in. It must have had a deeper meaning, but we missed that. Sorry. A bit of better programming could make this museum to a very good or excellent place to go.
