About
This Dominican convent is a place to marvel and contemplate. This neogotic complex is openend in 1901 and consists of a church and monastery. There are Catholic celebrations each weekend and also a lot of spirtual and philosophical activities during the week. This church is daily opend for visitors (tuesday-saturday 13.30-16.30). Special features of the church are the stained glass windows almost all made by a dominican brother. You can see the inspiration of the worldfamous stained glass windows in Chatres in one of the windows. The beautiful mosaic floor in the choir of the church celebrates the creation of the world with the four elements of the earth and the constellations. It's located just outside the citycanals in the district Assendorp at the beginning of the Assendorperstraat. A street with nice shops as well. It's a 10 min walk from the station Zwolle or citycenter and a nice way to see more of Zwolle than only the tourist highlights.

Great architecture,impressive windows.
The garden in the middle of the monastery is maintained by Harry Pierik and a group of volunteers.
Well worth to visit

Nearby the city center, not only very special and beautiful from the outside. But also very nice from the inside the monastery has beautiful stained glass pictures inside. It's a place where you can come to inner peace with yourself if you want to. You should definitely visit it once in you're life!

We had a guide who told us al about the history of the building. The building itself is great. An old monestary with still a few monks. Great art and paintings too.

The convent garden was closed and the rambling explanation of this closure from the church warden was next to incomprehensible, but we had a good look around inside the convent church, built in the beginning of the 20th century. Take a short walk along the Assendorperstraat, starting just over the "Sassenpoort" bridge and a five minutes walk brings you to the "Dominicanerklooster Zwolle". The church is interesting, but not a must-see. I added some pictures to this review for an impression.

Hello Hendrik, we just discovered Tripadvisor. Mostly we are not that quick in churches with digital innovations as Tripadvisor ;-). It's true that you can't see the convent garden, because there is no supervision. Sometimes with events like Open Monumentendag or with Pentacoast it's open for the public. Luckily you have seen the church and found it interesting.
What are your must-see churches? How did you find our church compared to other churches in Zwolle?

In this monastery you can see a quite nicely decorated church, and you can go around a gallery in the monastery. I found it nice, but not particularly impressive. Good for religion buffs, or if you have some spare time after visiting Zwolle (the monastery is close to the center).

I go here regularly for company meetings. Because it is an old monastery it brings out the best in people. Between meetings you can wander the corridors and regain you energy from the silence.
The church attached to the monastery is something you must see.
They provide food if you need it.Simple but good.
