The Synagoge in Zwolle was built in 1899 after the previous location -the Librije!- had become too small. After WWII, not so many Jewish people were left in Zwolle and the building declined ... however was renovated again and is still in use by the Stichting Judaica Zwolle.

Zwolle owns one of the most beautiful synagoges of The Netherlands. It's a very beautiful building with great arcitecture from the inside and outside. A few times a month you can get a tour through the whole building, a very unique experience. To know when you can do a tour I suggest you'll check the website.
The synagoge also provides a detailled history about the jews who lived and live in Zwolle. The synagoge is also very beautiful to see from the Peperbus it's top.

This building has withstood the ravages of time, and emerged as a working synagogue in combination with an historical site. As you enter, you are greeted with high ceilings, gleaming brass, dark wood, and plenty of light. Similar to other houses of worship.

Along the walls are plaques with names of Zwolle residents remembered from WWII, and listed with their final destinations, many of which were the camps. Up a flight of stairs is a small museum, with many interesting items to see. It struck me that this originally was the place where the Jewish women sat during services, apart from the men on the ground floor.

Zwolle is a lovely town to visit, and this should be one of the places on your list to see!

The Synagog is very nice and you can watch it in two different Streets. In front and at the back. The people were glad that it wasn't damaged during the Second World War.
