We received this tip from a local friend when we told her we were going to giethoorn. Here between all the little bridges is this gem of a museum hidden.
You enter as like going into a mine. The kids received a quizz with fun questions. We saw all kinds of interesting stones of all colors. Our daughter answered all the questions, learned a lot and received a nice price as reward.
A must go!!

Thousands of year in one hall. Be quiet in one room full of proves of age and greatness of Earth. Priceless atraction with free entrance. But that's the last thing you think of, surrounded by crystal vibes, seems like an ideal place for secret meditation.

I stopped in on a whim because they had this massive log of prettified wood out front. It costs 3.50 to enter and I thought it was worth the price for 45 minutes of entertainment. The museum is small, pretty much just one large room with many displays. They do have some spectacular gems from all over the world including some really large pieces. They also have an egg from an extinct giant bird - I forget the name - that was pretty cool. My favorite was the glow-in-the-dark display. Every few minutes the lights switch on and off automatically revealing some very cool phosphorescent rocks. There is not much to do in Giethoorn once you have gone boating and this is a nice activity.

We did not go into the museum but the gift shop had a large selection of rocks and stone artwork and decorations priced from the quite expensive to very reasonable so if you are a rock hound I am sure you will enjoy visiting the museum and gift store.

A visit to Giethoorn without a visit to the Oude Aarde? You must be kidding. Gemstones, fossiles, jewelry, even just browsing. Worth every minute!

Beautiful gems from all over the world, some just to look at, others to buy.
An unexpected treasure in the village of Giethoorn.

Jaw dropping pieces in these two beautiful shops in Giethoorn.
The gentleman who owns the shop spent time speaking with us and showed such a great deal of passion for his buissness.
It's so wonderful to meet people who appreciate the natural wonders of this world.

You must must take the time to visit this shop and museum, get on your knees and rummage through the stones and buy a few to take home!

One of the most incredible shops we have ever visited.

Thank you for sharing such beauty with us.
