This architectorial wonder with its religious symbolism and grandeur is worth visiting. Best is a guided tour because otherwise a lot of the refinement will go by unnoticed.

The synagogue is located in the city suburbs. It is not particularly easy to find and parking is problematic. It is huge with many rooms and areas but is interesting with adequate explanation

When you are looking for a real stunning experience: visit the Synagogue in Enschede. It's one of the nicest spots in the city of Enschede. It tells the story of the Jewish community in Enschede during the last century. The Synagogue is dated from the year 1928 and is designed by the famous architect De Bazel. In the building you can admire the most beautiful art deco decorations.

I was part of a small group that had a guided tour to the synagogue and our guide was excellent and had fascinating stories about the synagogue and its community. The building itself was beautiful, with interesting art deco style detailing.

It does not matter if you are religious or not, if you believe in the evil of men or not. This place is a sad reminder of what happened after WWII in this region of Twente. Before, there were almost all religions living happily, now, there are less than 100 jews. If you are insensible to sufferings of one part of humanity, then probably you don't need to see this great building.

Most synagogues I have seen are either classic buildings or very modern ones. This was built in the 30s and survived basically intact WWII. The architect is de Bazel. The tour (1h15m) was absolutely great.

I went here to see what's inside. Place was very nice with lots of art and history. Not too long of a visit, but still nice to see.

Visited and received by friendly people, who explained us the possibilities. For € 7,50 you can do an audio tour, the use is self-explanatory and you get a clear explanation. For that price you can get coffee or tea in the restaurant and a homemade pastry for a fee. What friendly people work here.
The synagogue was built in 1926 when a population of about 1450 Jews lived in Enschede.
