terrible
Oct 2020
Terrible experience. Only a very little part of the exposed material had English descriptions, so it was more like guessing all time what we were looking at. The staff was not helpful and part of the material was covered because of renovation going on.
This is a museum that only Dutch people can appreciate, scarcity of material, and very minimalistic description that can be good for someone with a brain of a 10-year-old child.

Great museum with original style
Aug 2020 • Family
We really enjoyed the museum visit with our toddler who could run around and get genuinely interested in the topics that were presented in the museum such as the birds flight, ice age animals etc.
It would take approximately 1,5-2h per group if you are with children. They also
Have a large wall with Twente painters work that is nice to see during the visit.
We certainly recommend it for a morning or an afternoon both for groups with or without children.

Pleasant visit

It is an old factory converted in a museum. There are a lot of exhibits from private collections to zoological and household items. It also exhibits some machinery from the fabrics factory, showing the industrial history of the city.

Confusing and dissapointing
Oct 2018
If you go, be open minded and expect a museum with mixed feelings. We did expect a museum with proper information and guide, we found a museum representing a private collection and some war information and stories. The collection of animals and skeletons were ok, but small and randomøy exposed. The museum was not suitable for non duch people, but as a Norwegian we were able to understand most of the explanations (knowledge of english, german and norwegian helps) The museum tries to cover everything, Zological, thechnical, industrial and new science together with a war history. A mixture that is not a full succsess.
Was it worth the 17 € for two persons? Wife said NO, I say maybe :)

Now called Museumfabriek!
Jul 2018 • Family
Though they have some interesting permanent collections as well as temporary exhibitions, the whole lot is thrown together somewhat haphazardly. The area where kids can make their own creations (some for free, some at small cost for materials) is very nice though. Our 4 year old granddaughter received a complete kit for free to create her own zeppelin!

A combination of nature and culture

Museum TwentseWelle was built in the Roombeek district, in the remains of the Rozendaal complex, a former textile factory. TwentseWelle is a real family museum. By playing, learning, thinking, experimenting and dreaming, you discover the future. In a permanent exhibition in a huge hall, the visitor is led by the Twente as it looked during the last ice age to contemporary (and future). Exchange exhibitions in the fields of science, healthcare, industry and landscape, a media center and an observatory are part of TwentseWelle. The TwentseWelle museum was opened in April 2008 by Queen Beatrix . In 2009 the museum received the Rob de Bes Award. This prize is awarded annually by the national tourist office to the most innovative tourist attraction in the Netherlands. WiFi is free but you have to ask for the password. A must if you are in Enschede.

A must if you want to know more about Enschede and Twente!
Apr 2017 • Couples
Settled coose to the area of the fireworks catastrophe in the heart of Enschede, about 10 walking minutes from the city centre, the Twentse Welle offers different exposition, of which ine is permanent and focused on the history of the area and the other one has changing topics. The permanent one guides you from the earliest times of settlement on Twente to the times when the weaving industry was in blossom. I found it a bit peculiar that there was no mentioning of the large fire in the 19th century or the detailed history of the city during the German occupation. That is not a severe problem that should keep you from visiting. A model of the different stages of development of the city of Enschede would also be terrific, but maybe that is coming later.
Parking directly at the museum is kindof tricky, so you might want to use one of the large parking areas available in the city and walk the short distance, but you definitely should visit it if you have two to three hours of time!

Its a museum which is not too large so you could finish viewing the whole of it in about two hours. Loved all the details about different varities of birds & their nests etc.

Even at the tourist info near the central station, where I asked for the right way, they didn't warn me that this museum was closed !!
So I was in Enschede for nothing...

Though it took time to understand the explanations that are given by screens it is all well documented, great experience for adults and children. Worth to spend several hours.
