Who has enough time in this century to dig into the history of this important church in Deventer ?I watched the documentary film about the history of the town in the History Museum ,and I really enjoyed the story of the two monks who crossed the river in 778 ,having visions of the church.Lebuinus constructed the first chapel on this spot ,on the eastern bank of Ijssel ,his mission was to convert people to christianity. The present church from the 15 th century is dedicated to him ,it stands proudly in the big square ,it is visible from far and wide ,it invites you freely to go inside ,maybe you can learn something about its destiny.I couldn't find any English information about it , I explored the interior ,like a blind .I was impressed by its simplicity ,by its big proportions ,it was renovated many times in its stone history ,it belonged to Catholics ,Calvinists ,Protestants. The medieval floor with gravestones impressed me a lot ,there was a painting exhibition inside ,the past and the present go hand in hand .Outside the sober Gothic church ,children were playing in the sand ,on one side of it...terraces were full of tourists nearby.A must see attraction when you visit the charming Deventer .

Stunning church with simple, Calvinistic interior (white) which traces of it's Catholic past. Wonderful and spacious.

The tower climb is cheap and offers great view. The church itself is impressive, unfortunately the protestants have demolished all catholic ornaments in the 16th century. So no frescos

Interesting church worth a visit. There are many medieval murals recently rediscovered and renovated and also a beautiful organ.

the leuinus church, also known as the great church is an amazing place to visit. and, if one has the courage and stamina, and in good health, take the steps to the tower. from there, one has a panoramic view of the city.

The Lebuinus Church is among the bigger churches in the Netherlands, ranking behind the churches in 's-Hertogenbosch and Haarlem. Not very ornamental.

Deventer is such a pretty place to visit with old buildings a lovely streets with little shops.
If you take the ferry you get a nice view of Deventer. It cost 1.60euro return.
You park your car (for nothing) many of the locals take advantage of this.

Dominating the skyline of the city this impressive, huge church is worthwhile a visit. Its high gothic ceilings, the immense pillars, the decoration: it is a fest for the senses. Recommended!
